  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.  Internet Fraudster Bags 7years in Port Harcourt   Justice P.M Ayua of the Federal High Court sitting in PortHarcourt,  Rivers State has convicted and sentenced one Odinakachi Prince Onyeoziri to seven years imprisonment.   He was jailed after pleading guilty to three-count charges bordering on internet fraud contrary to Section 14 (1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under the same Section.   One of the count charges read:  “That you, Odinakachi Prince Onyeoziri, and Solmyr (atlarge) between June, 2021 to November, 2022 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court knowingly caused your victims loss by inputting or suppressing data in computers thereby benefitting the aggregate sum of $3000 (Three thousand United States Dollars) and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 14(1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under the same Section”   He pleaded "guilty" to the charges when they w

 EFCC Arrests 20 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Sapele Operatives of the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday May 3, 2024 arrested 20 suspected internet fraudsters at different locations in Sapele, Delta State. The suspects were arrested following actionable intelligence on their suspected involvement in computer- related fraud.  Yemi Alade slams colleagues for downplaying Afrobeats genre Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has berated her colleagues who downplay the Afrobeats genre. She said that while it is not wrong for artists to denounce Afrobeats especially if they feel it doesn’t define their art, it is hypocrisy for them to downplay the genre, adding that it has contributed to every Nigerian artist’s development. On her X handle, the ‘Johnny’ crooner wrote: “I don’t see anything wrong in informing your listeners of the genre of music an artist makes especially when you feel it doesn’t define your art. “Just Announce your Genre in peace. Downplaying the role Afrobeats has played in every artist’s development is hypocrisy.” Alade’s social media outburst is coming against the backdrop of some Nigerian singers including Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy denouncing the Afrobeats genre. They all claimed that they ditched the genre because all African artists boxed into Afrobeats regardless of their musical styles.

GWR: Nigerian Lady Completes 72-Hour Nail Painting Marathon In Plataeu A Nigerian nail painter from Plateau State, Lisha Dachor, 19, has wrapped up her  attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest nail painting marathon by an individual.  At the event, dubbed a "nail-a-thon," Dachor was reported to have painted over 4,000 artificial nails in 72 hours. In a post on her Facebook page on Thursday, she wrote, "Breaking barriers and setting records! Honoured to have set a new milestone in the world of nail art with the longest marathon painting of artificial nails by an individual. Grateful for the journey and the incredible support.".  POLICE ARREST 40 SUSPECTS IN YABA   The operatives of Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on Tuesday night arrested 40 suspected criminals in different black spots  within  Yaba.   The 40 suspects were arrested at about 10:00 p.m. when the operatives of Rapid Response squad working with members of Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency swooped on the areas.   The raid is sequel to complaints from members of the public about the activities of criminals who  waylay passersby and rob them of their belongings.  Father of seven arrested for allegedly abusing eight girls, one boy A 53-year-old father of seven children, Abdullahi Imman  has been arrested for allegedly s3xually abusing eight girls and one boy between 6 to 11 years at Tayi village area in Minna, Niger state.  Imman, who is popularly called Abba in the community, said that he lured the children into his provisions shop with biscuits and sweets. According to him, he normally puts his fingers into their private parts until he is satisfied and promised them more sweets and biscuits if they return again. Imman said he cannot help himself from involving in the act despite being married with seven children. “I have been into this act since March, 2024. I cannot stop myself even though I am married with seven children. Though the Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Prof. Isaq Oloyede, had said the Board would not announce the highest scorer to avoid last year’s experience of confusing claims, Olukayode’s score is celebratory, as it is among the highest in recent years.  BENUE: MOB LYNCHES YOUNG MAN OVER MISSING TV SET IN OTUKPO  3rd May, 2024     A young man identified as Okibe Otsapa has been reportedly lynched by an angry mob over a missing television set in Otukpo, Benue State. It was gathered that the deceased was accused of stealing a television set from a beer joint in Otukpo, Benue state. This was contained in a petition by Napoleon Chambers to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun. The petition fingered one Mr Owoicho George Adama, popularly called Owie Banker, over alleged involvement in the murder of Otsapa.
