  Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court sitting in Warri on Thursday February 18, 2021 convicted one Ashiru Afeez on one count charge bordering on operating a vessel in Nigeria Territorial Waters without due registration and licence from appropriate authority. Afeez, Captain of vessel, MT De Praise was arraigned by the Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and pleaded guilty to the charge prompting the prosecution counsel, Austin Ozigbo to ask the court to convict and sentence him accordingly . However, the defence counsel, Joshua Solomon, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy as the defendant was a first time offender. Justice Nwite convicted and sentenced the defendant to a fine of N600,000.   Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the legacy bequeathed by the first Civilian Governor of the State, the late Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, in public service will remain a reference point in annals of governance in the country.   Some teachers who were instrumental to excellent performance of students of Education District I during the last West African Examinations Council, WAEC, have been recognised by the Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Education District, Barrister (Mrs.) Margaret Titilayo Solarin. Mrs. Solarin said the recognition was well deserved, adding that the teachers, against all odds and restrictions on the sector as a result of COVID-19 pandemic invested so much time and efforts in ensuring that the students performed excellently well during the external examinations. The TG/PS disclosed that the teachers were commended to encourage their colleagues to go the extra miles in imparting knowledge to the students.   President Muhammadu Buhari has lauded the Republic of Chad for what he calls the effective “security back-up” given to Nigeria in fighting against insurgency. The President spoke Friday at State House, Abuja, while receiving in audience Mr Ahmat Oumar Ahmat, a Special Envoy of President Idriss Deby Itno. President Buhari said the need for security collaboration with our neighbours was why his first trips on assuming office in 2015 were to Nigeria’s immediate neighbours. “I went round because we needed to work together. The peoples are the same, cultures are similar, so it was important that we also worked together on security,” the President said. He wished Republic of Chad best of luck in general elections coming up in April.   The teenage female student, who was arrested for possession of a pistol in other to kill her school teacher for telling her to cut her coloured hair in Cross River State has confessed that she also belongs to a cult group “Sky Queens Confraternity”. She also confessed that the owner of the pistol is her “man-friend”, who’s married and a father of 6 kids.
