       As preparations for the 2019 general election enters the home stretch, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission restates its determination to stamp out corruption in the electoral process to ensure that the will of the people is not subverted through financial inducement by desperate politicians. To this end, and starting from the governorship election in Osun State this weekend, the Commission has fully mobilized its investigative resources in a proactive move to stem the incidence of vote buying and other financial inducements that had bedeviled the nation's electoral process.       The Chief Magistrate Administration of Oyo State, N. A. J. Ogunbona (Mrs) paid an inspection visit to the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC today, 21 September, 2018 to inspect the state of the Commission’s Cell. The visit was in line with Sections 36 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act and 35 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, Oyo State. It was also born out of the recent ci rcular from the Chief Justice of the Federation, mandating all Chief Magistrates to visit all detention facilities within their jurisdiction and take register of suspects in custody and the length of their detention and as well make an appropriate order.        Update on Search and Rescue Operations for Maj Gen IM Alkali (Rtd). The Nigerian Army in its quest to unravel the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Maj Gen IM Alkali (rtd) has been conducting several search and rescue operations around the last known location of the missing senior officer.   Consequently, the COAS Lt Gen TY Buratai constituted a Joint Task Force comprising officers and soldiers from 3 Division Quick Response Team, Operation Safe Haven, Nigeria Pol ice Force, Vehicle Inspection Office, Fire Service, as well as Local Divers.       PRESIDENT BUHARI RECEIVES IN AUDIENCE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF, BURATAI. SEPTEMBER 21, 2018. JUST IN: The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen TY Buratai briefed the C-in-C today 21 September 2018 on the Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency efforts in the North East. The C-in-C was impressed with the decisive response of the COAS to the initial setbacks in the North East. The C-in-C also commended the troops efforts in dealing with the bandits in the North West especially Zamfara State. The COAS seized the opportunity to pledge the unalloyed loyalty of the officers and men of the Nigerian Army to the C-in-C.        Work on the Pen Cinema Flyover in Agege area of Lagos is now at 60 per cent completion stage, the State Government said on Friday. The government also said the 10-lane Oshodi-International Airport Road was now at over 50 per cent completion stage, with an assurance that it would be completed by the end of the year. The design of the Airport Road includes reconstruction and expansion of the existing carriage to 3-lane Expressway on both directions, construction of 2-lane Service Road in both directions, construction of Ramp Bridge to provide a U-turn from Ajao Estate to Airport, construction of a flyover at NAHCO/Toll Gate and drainage works.     Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has confirmed receipt of N14.9 billion final tranche of the Paris Club refund from the Federal Government. Governor Ortom says 80% of the funds will be used for payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities. The Governor has therefore set up a committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Engineer Benson Abounu to work out modalities for immediate disbursement of the funds. Also on the committee are the Head of Service, Finance Commissioner, Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Adviser on Labour Matters, Chairmen of Nigerian Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Benue State chapters. The decision of Governor Ortom to involve key stakeholders in disbursement of the Paris Club refund is in line with his policy of transparency and accountability.        The Defence Headquarters wishes to state that the Nigerian Armed Forces is concerned about mischievous reports in certain media aimed at discrediting the efforts of the troops in the North East. A report being spearheaded by a particular foreign news agency that the Nigerian Armed Forces is losing the battle against insurgency is not true. The report was calculated to dampen the spirit of the troops at the theatres of operati on and to demean the successes recorded so far in the war against terrorism. It is more worrisome when such an ill-informed report is coming from a supposed credible news agency expected to be a partner in progress. It agitates the mind whether the reporter is working in isolation or speaking the mind of its sponsors. It is a well known fact that terrorism thrives on publicity and propaganda.       Having declared the recent flooding of communities in parts of the country as a national disaster, the Federal Government will deploy more resources to mitigate sufferings of people in the affected areas, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN. While commending the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA and the state emergency management authorities for its quick responses, Prof Osinbajo also said the Federal Government would work together with the state and local governments to ensure that people in the affected communities are resettled so that they can get back to normal lives.
