 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

     The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned one Ojone Ogwu, a Front Desk Officer with the Cable African Network Television, Port Harcourt, Rivers State before Justice F. O. G Ogunbanjo of the Federal High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt, on a 22-count charge bordering on stealing and obtaining money by false presenceS to the tune of N14, 319,875.00( Fourteen Million, Three Hundred and Nineteen Thousand,  Eight Hundred and Seventy Five Naira only). The petitioner alleged that, Ogwu issued invoices and receipts for customers' subscriptions for his Cable Television to the tune of N20, 929, 655.00k (Twenty Million, Nine Hundred and Twenty Nine Thousand, Six Hundred and Fifty Five Naira only) but could not account for the sum of N14, 319, 875. 00k.       After months of adjournment, the trial of Shamsudeen Bala, son of a former FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, in a case of alleged money laundering to the tune of N1.1billion continued on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court, Abuja, with the cross-examination of the PW1, Ishaya Dauda. Bala is facing a 15-count charge of money laundering alongside four firms - Bird Trust Ag ro Allied Ltd; Intertrans Global Logistics Ltd; DiakinTelecommunications Ltd and Bal-Vac Mining Ltd.The former FCT Minister’s son allegedly paid various cash sums of money beyond the limit set by the Money Laundering Act for the purchase of houses without going through a financial institution.Bala, in a bid to conceal the stolen funds resorted to acquisition of properties within high brow of Abuja.At the commencement of the trial on November 9, 2017 Dauda, an operative of the EFCC, in his evidence in-chief narrated how Shamsudeen paid a cumulative sum of N1.1billion to buy

        Senteni Masango the 8th wife of Africa's last absolute monarch has died after committing suicide. She was found dead in the early hours of Friday morning barely a week after the burial of her sister Nombuso Masango. She took overdose drug of about 40 amytriptyline capsules which is drugs for primarily used to treat a number of mental illnesses, major depressive disorder and lack of attention disorder. Sources closer to her have revealed how unhappy she was with the abuse within the royal household and how the king's order to ensure that she neither attends her late sister's memorial service nor funeral. Lately she has lived alone for over 3 years in a big mansion with no single visit from her husband the king.When called for comment the king's right handman Khandlela Mdluli's phone rang unanswered.

        Clement Ebuka Nwaogu has been burnt alive by a mob, in the latest xenophobia attack in South Africa. The Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Union in South Africa, Habib Miller, said the victim, a native of Njikoka in Anambra and an upholsterer in South Africa, was attacked and killed by a mob in Rustenburg, North West Province. . Miller said the victim was murdered in cold blood over his accent and habit, which the mobsters supposedly found offensive. “The mob descended on him like a common criminal with all sorts of dangerous weapons in the presence of South African police officers. . Eyewitnesses say the victim beckoned for help from the police to intervene and help him, but they turned a blind eye. When Nwaogu could no longer persevere, he ran for safety; the mob chased and caught him, poured petrol on him and set him ablaze,” he said. He later died at Job Shimankane Hospital.
