 Alleged defamation: Matawalle sues journalists, media outfits for ₦60b in damages The Minister of State for Defense, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, has dragged two prominent northern journalists, Shu’aibu Mungadi and Tijjani Ramalan, to court for alleged defamation and malicious reportage. Other respondents in the suit marked K/M2102/2024 before Justice Musa Ahmad of Kano State High Court, Bichi Division, include the employers of the two journalists, Vision Media Services Ltd, Vision FM, Farin Wata Television, and Liberty Radio and TV. He is also asking for N10 billion compensation as general damages from each of the six defendants in addition to 10 percent post-judgment interest on the entire judgement sum until fully liquidated. In the motion on notice filed by Umar Said of Umar and Umar Chambers, the Minister of State is praying for “an order of interlocutory injunction restraining all the defendants, their officers, staff, agents, servants, and employees from making further instigation

FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed revealed the statistics in Bauchi yesterday during the flag-off of the 2024 World Road Traffic Crash Victims Remembrance Week, held at St John’s Evangelist Cathedral Church. The event, themed “That Day”, was designed to reflect on the days that road traffic accidents either ended lives or irreversibly altered their course.  Army Arrest 5 Oil Thieves, Deactivates Illegal Refineries In Rivers Five suspected oil thieves have been arrested by operatives of the Nigerian Army 6 division, as forty six illegal refineries were deactivated in Ogba/Egbema local government area of Rivers state. This was disclosed in a statement by the Acting Deputy Director of the Nigerian Army 6 division Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah. According to him, boats used to ferry stolen products and thousands of litres of stolen products were recovered in the remote creeks by operatives of the Nigerian Army. The operation was said to have been successful as a result of intelligence gathering, as the Army engaged armed vandals in a shootout before arresting the suspects. Stolen crude oil packaged in sacks were also confiscated, while operational illegal refineries sites were deactivated and destroyed in line with professional best practices according to the military.  Minister Cautions Kwankwaso Against Contempt of Court in Kano Emirate Council Dispute Yusif Abdullahi Ata, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, has warned Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), against making “contemptuous statements” regarding the ongoing legal dispute over the Kano Emirate Council. The minister urged Senator Kwankwaso to avoid remarks that could exacerbate divisions in the country or risk being seen as in contempt of court concerning the legal proceedings related to the Kano Emirate issue.  Dangote Refinery To Supply 60 Million Litres Of Petrol Weekly To IPMAN To Boost Crude Imports The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reached an agreement to supply 60 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) on a weekly basis, which translates to 240 million litres per month. This comes as the $20bn Lekki-based refinery seeks to raise billions of dollars to import crude oil and increase production to reach its full capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. IPMAN National Publicity Secretary, Chinedu Ukadike, confirmed that the association is finalizing discussions with Dangote and expects to start lifting PMS from the refinery before the end of November. The agreement has already led to a drop in petrol prices by N10 to N15 due to increased competition in the downstream sector following deregulation.
