 POLICE PRESS RELEASE  BOMB EXPLOSION IN PORT HARCOURT The Rivers State Police Command has been alerted to two explosions that rocked the city of Port Harcourt today, Saturday, October 5, 2024. The first explosion was reported at the APC Secretariat on Aba Road at approximately 3:00 AM. A security guard reported hearing a loud bang and, upon investigation, observed three black Toyota Hilux vans speeding away from the scene.  River Benue water levels receding – NIHSA confirms The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has announced a slight decrease in River Benue’s water levels in recent days, lowering the risk of severe flooding. According to Channels Television, retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli, Chief Election Officer of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, announced the results on Saturday in Port Harcourt. Enebeli noted that the announcement for Etche Local Government Area has been delayed as the collation of results is still ongoing.  DR Congo begins mpox vaccinations The authorities in Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday began vaccination against mpox. The 265,000 doses donated to Congo by the European Union and the US were rolled out in the eastern city of Goma in North Kivu province, according to AP. Although most mpox infections and deaths recorded in Congo are in children under age 15, the doses being administered are only meant for adults and will be given to at-risk populations and front-line workers, Health Minister Roger Kamba said this week. Congo, with about 30,000 suspected mpox cases and 859 deaths, accounts for more than 80% of all the cases and 99% of all the deaths reported in Africa this year.

 Burkina Faso to revoke some foreign firms' mining permits Burkina Faso plans to withdraw mining permits from some foreign companies and will seek to produce more of its own gold, junta leader Ibrahim Traore said on Saturday, Reuters reported. "We know how to mine our gold and I don't understand why we're going to let multinationals come and mine it," Traore said in a radio address to mark two years since he seized power in a coup. "In fact, we are going to withdraw mining permits," he said. He did not specify which permits or provide further detail. Gold is the main export of the West African country, where frustration over a long-running security crisis helped bring the junta to power in 2022.

Also covered by the new dispensation unveiled on X  by the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Tunde Oyedele, are Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) commonly known as diesel from October 1, 2023 and  parts and semi-knocked down units of EVs for assembly in the country.  Explosion rocks Rivers APC Secretariat  Explosions have rocked the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat located along the bush Aba Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. It was gathered that the explosives suspected to be dynamites shattered buildings and property in the secretariat, creating panic in the neighborhood.
