  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Give Former First Ladies Some Privileges - Aisha Buhari Outgoing First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has called for the application of certain privileges akin to the provision of vehicles, sponsored medical treatments and provision of some stipends, among others that are due to former Presidents, to wives of Presidents as against the existing position. Mrs Buhari said first ladies deserved these privileges just like their husbands or Presidents in office and out of office because when the pressure comes, nobody wants to know whether you are out of the villa or not. Gunmen behead man in drinking joint in Abia 26 May 2023  Gunmen have beheaded a yet-to-be-identified man, after killing him at a drinking joint in Aba, Abia State. The unknown gunmen numbering about four were said to have stormed the drinking joint along Georges Street by St. Michael’s road junction in a tricycle and shot the deceased thrice, beheaded him with a machete and fled the scene. Eyewitnesses told Vanguard that the incident caused panic in the area as people scampered to safety, leaving their drinks and vehicles as well as the deceased in a pool of blood. COURT IMPOSES N17M FINE ON LITIGANTS, LAWYER IN LAWSUIT AGAINST TINUBU, APC TO HALT INAUGURATION Federal High Court in Abuja Orders N17m Fine Against Litigants and Lawyer in Frivolous Suit Seeking to Halt Tinubu's Inauguration Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has imposed a fine of N17 million on three litigants and their lawyer for filing a baseless lawsuit attempting to prevent the inauguration of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The court found Praise Ilemona, Pastor Paul Issac Audu, and Dr. Anongu Moses, who jointly initiated the suit to halt Tinubu's swearing-in, liable for the fine.  The three litigants are required to jointly pay N10 million to President-Elect Tinubu and an additional N5 million to the All Progressives Congress (APC), who were among the seven defendants in the case.
