 LASG URGES SOLID MINERALS STAKEHOLDERS TO AVOID ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION  The Lagos State Government has called on solid minerals stakeholders in the sector to avoid practices that can lead to environmental pollution, urging the stakeholders to focus on minimising the environmental hazards caused by sand spillage on roads.   Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum organised by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources held in Alausa, Ikeja, recently, the Chairman of the Lagos State House Assembly Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources, Hon.  2 People Swept Away By Flood While Sleeping In Anambra Found Dead  A Mother of three and one other person have been killed in a flood disaster that occurred at Ugwu Mkpume Layout, Achalla Agu community in Nkpor Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The victims were said to be asleep when the flood suddenly broke into their various apartments, swept them away and they were found dead in another location. Our correspondent who visited the area on Saturday, gathered that the flooding was caused by the over 11-hour rains that fell on Thursday till in the early hours of Friday. Many buildings in the area were submerged while properties estimated to be worth millions of naira were destroyed as well as farmlands washed away by the flood. The healthcare professionals are now struggling to renew their licenses and fulfill international regulatory requirements. Many nurses, unable to secure necessary verification from the NMCN, find themselves in breach of visa conditions and employment laws, leading to legal challenges.  How Bandits Abducted Nursing Mother, 22 Others In Kaduna Communities Bandits stormed Mani village in Rido Ward and Danhonu II Millennium City, both in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Wednesday and Thursday, reportedly abducting 23 people. It was reported that the bandits stormed Mani community in large numbers while the residents were still asleep. They began shooting and then moved from house to house, abducting about 19 people. The victims reportedly included a nursing mother and an infant. In another incident, bandits attacked Dan Honu II, New Millennium City also in Chikun Local Government Area where they abducted a nurse and her three sons. The bandits attacked the home of Mr Mutiu Adeleke, abducting his wife and three sons while leaving him behind. Nigerians may end up buying petrol at ₦5000 per litre — NLC  The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has stated that Nigerians may end up buying petrol at N5000 per litre.    NLC’s spokesperson, Benson Upah disclosed this in an interview with Daily Trust on Saturday, September 7.  Accto him, “We are planning to have a meeting with the appropriate organs of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).  Edo suspends school resumption until further notice due to the hike in fuel price Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, has announced an indefinite postponement of the resumption of all schools in the state due to the recent increase in fuel prices. This was disclosed in a memo issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Ojo Akin-Longe, on Saturday, September 7.    “The Edo State Government hereby announces that the resumption of all public and private schools in Edo State, initially scheduled for Monday, September 9, 2024, has been postponed until further notice This decision has been made in response to the rising tension and challenges resulting from the recent fuel price increase,” the memo reads.

 Uganda defense minister Sarah Mateke dies after illness Uganda Defense Minister Sarak Mateke has died after a short illness, the government says. The minister was pronounced dead at a hospital in the capital, Kampala, where she was rushed on Saturday morning, Information Minister Chris Baryomunsi announced, according to TRT Afrika. "I am sad to announce the death of the state minister of defense and also Kisoro Woman MP. May the good Lord comfort the family and rest her soul," he is quoted as saying. Mateke was appointed defense minister in April after President Yoweri Museveni reshuffled his cabinet and moved her from the gender ministry.  Hospital admissions may rise over fuel price hike, NMA warns The Nigerian Medical Association, Lagos State chapter, has said that the hike in fuel price in the country could drive more Nigerians into depression, leading to a rise in the rate of hospital admission. The association called on the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to address the petrol price hike and end fuel importation in Nigeria. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited hiked the petrol price to N855 and above across its retail outlets nationwide on Tuesday.  A California man purposefully crashed his truck into a plot of land used to house animals and went on an armed rampage taking the lives of 81 animals. Vicente Arroyo, 39-years-old, is facing charges after a disturbing Tuesday morning incident where he callously took the lives of 81 animals. According to reports, Arroyo used multiple firearms to take the lives of 14 goats, nine chickens, seven ducks, five rabbits, 33 cockatiels and parakeets, a pony, a horse and two miniature horses. The incident occurred around 3:25 a.m. Tuesday morning in Prunedale, CA. On that morning dispatchers began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting shots being fired at a lot near a vineyard. While I fully appreciate that the ship of state waits for no man, this agonizing decision -- entailing a pause of my functions as the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity and Official Spokesperson of the President; Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, and Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen -- was taken after significant consultations with my family over the past several days as a vexatious medical situation has worsened at home. I look forward to returning to full-time national service when time, healing, and fate permit. I respectfully ask for some privacy for my family and I during this time.
