  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. 5 Drown In Kano Boat Mishap  Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of five people, in a boat mishap at Kanwa Dam in Madobi Local Government Area of the state. The  Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, explained that, the boat conveying  11 people capsized leading to the death of five while  6 people  were rescued alive. He highlighted that, the agency received a distress call from one Umar Faruk-Dalada, at about 05:40 pm "There are 11 persons on the boat, but six were rescued alive, while five were rescued in an unconscious state" Saminu maintained that, the deceased who are indegenea of Fagge local government area include  Abdulrazak Navara, Dalha Muktar Atamma, Mustapha Ibrahim, Umar Isah and Umar Idris.  The public relations officer pointed out that, investigations into the boat mishap had commenced, and charged the public to maintain safety at all times. NGF Holds Valedictory Meeting As 17 Members Depart The Nigeria Governors’ Forum NGF will be holding its 2023 valedictory meeting Wednesday 26th of April 2023. According to an invitation to all the 36 Governors, issued by the Director-General of the Forum Mr Asishana Okauru, the meeting will be the 5th physical meeting in 2023, as the four earlier meetings during the year had been virtual. It further states that after the Chairman’s brief and parting remarks, the floor would be open for valedictories from members.   Seventeen Governors are leaving the Forum, having completed their terms of office, while adequate arrangements have been put in place for the induction of new Governors and returning ones which is coming up between 14th and 17 of next month.  The meeting will also end the Leadership of Governors’ Fayemi/Tambuwal in the Forum as another Chairman is expected to emerge among Governors of majority party.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA  Six police recruit applicants tested positive for illicit substances MEDIA STATEMENT Sunday April 23, 2023 Six applicants for the recent police recruitment drive for the National Capital District, Central and Gulf provinces were tested positive for illicit substances last week. Four were tested positive in the regular recruit program whilst two were in the police cadet officer program. Of the four in the regular recruit program, two tested positive for marijuana and two for methamphetamine or ice. Three of the four are males whilst one is a female. They were among a total of 213 applicants for the regular police recruit program who did their medical checks on Thursday and Friday last week. Deputy Commissioner Administration Joanne Clarkson said of the 213 who did their medical checks, 26 failed, including the four who tested positive for illicit substances. She said 24 were disqualified on other medical conditions such as eye test, neck nodes related to Tuberculosis,

Two buried alive in Benue over alleged witchcraft  Angry youths from Konshisha local Government area in Benue State have buried two persons alive for allegedly being behind the thunder strike that affected one Henry Ihwakaa, his wife and a two-week-old child. Ihwakaa, who is said to be the father of Henry, was accused by the youths of bewitching people with thunder storm in the area any time it rains. It was gathered that on that fateful day, the youths mobilised and attacked Ihwakaa and his alleged collaborator. They later dug a sharrow grave and buried them alive. TRAGEDY IN KOGI MAN LOSES LIFE INTERVENING IN ARGUMENT OVER URINATION A man lost his life in Kogi state's Adavi local government area after attempting to settle a dispute between two men regarding public urination. The victim, Orishagbemi Sunday, was 39 years old. The tragedy occurred when Orishagbemi attempted to calm his friend and another man engaged in an argument over the act of urinating in public. The incident was confirmed by the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya. According to reports, the deceased's friend, who works as a vulcanizer at Ganaja junction, Lokoja, urinated close to a building owned by a resident of the area. The resident's son, Sadiq, took issue with the action, sparking a heated argument. Concerned by the altercation, Orishagbemi intervened to try and resolve the situation, but the building owner's son pulled out a knife and fatally stabbed him. Tension as Ijaw militants, Biafra separatists clash in Akwa Ibom 24 April 2023  Tension surfaced yesterday as two militant groups, the Ijaw militants and the Biafra separatists, clashed in Nigeria’s territorial waters near the Gulf of Guinea, it was learnt. Specifically, the incident occurred at Uyenghe, in Mbo Council of Akwa Ibom State, near the Gulf of Guinea. Some of the militants were injured, but no fatality was recorded in the incident. Top sources said some militants of Ijaw extraction attacked the Black Marine, a militant group allegedly working for the Biafra Nations League (BNL).
