 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

MONEY WE'RE SPENDING ON CANCER HOSPITAL IN RIVERS JUSTIFIED -WIKE Governor of Rivers State,  Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the money his administration is spending on the Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease Diagnostic and Treatment Centre in the State is not a misplaced priority. The governor made the assertion on Thursday when he visited the project site at Rumuokuta in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, to inspect the progress of work done already. Governor Wike said that no amount of money spent in putting in place facilities that will secure the health of all residents in the state will be considered a waste. "I'm very happy that the money we have spent here is not a misplaced priority. The healthcare of our people is important to us. "It will save the time people travel overseas for cancer treatment. I think it will be something every Nigerians will be happy with.  Here will be like a tourist centre.  It has helipad, and doctors' quarters.

NDC COURSE 29 PARTICIPANTS PRESENT RESEARCH PAPER TO COAS.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

Nigerian Army Participants of National Defence College Course 29 today, formally presented a Research Paper to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya in partial fulfillment for the award of the prestigious Fellow Defence College (fdc). The Research Paper titled “Pandemic and National Security in Nigeria: Implications for the Nigerian Army" was presented at the Army Headquarters Conference Room Abuja by Col Olutosin Ogunleye on behalf of the participants. The Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral Oladele Daji, who led the participants to Army Headquarters, said the NDC Course 29 assembled in September 2020 and were subsequently given a topic to research on by the COAS. He disclosed further that about 22 participants researched the work, under the supervision of the College members of faculty.  In his remarks, the COAS commended the participants for carrying out a thorough research work, that examined contemporary security challenges bedeviling the country

 Unity Bank Grows 34% Pre-tax Profit, Records N23B Gross Earnings in H1 2021 Nigeria’s retail lender, Unity Bank Plc has declared half-year result posting gross earnings of 23.6 billion Naira, which is a 3% increase compared with the corresponding period of 2020. A review of the unaudited half year result (H1’2021) released to the Nigerian Stock Exchange, the Agric-focused lender showed notable improvement across key financial matrices. The Bank grew bottom-line by 34% as Profit before Tax (PBT) moved up significantly in positive territory to close at N1.50 billion from N1.12 billion recorded in H2 2020.  Similarly, the Profit After Tax, PAT closed at N1.38 billion within the period under review from N1.03 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2020, a sign of a stronger recovery in the overall economy and the Bank’s key focus market segment after a disruptive pandemic year. NDLEA recovers 35wraps of cocaine from ladys underwear at Lagos airport . Intercepts drugs going to Italy, Turkey; seizes bandits supply in Niger Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, on Saturday 31st July, 2021, recovered 35 wraps of cocaine from the underwear of a lady, Okafor Ebere Edith during the outward clearance of passengers on Air Cotevoire, to Monrovia, Liberia from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos. The suspect who tucked the pellets of cocaine in her underwear to beat security checks at the Airport was however picked up for search and questioning during which the wraps of the illicit drug were found on her.  PRESS STATEMENT The Media Office of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki would like to confirm that this afternoon, of his own volition, Dr. Saraki visited the office of the EFCC to clarify any issue that the commission may have wanted to raise with him. He was never arrested and he is at home right now. It will be recalled that following the order of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on the Fundamental Human Rights case filed by Dr. Saraki during the period of the former Chairman of the EFCC which precluded the commission from investigating him until the matter is dispensed with, the commission at the last hearing on July 14, 2021, pleaded with the judge that the order was preventing them from doing their job. Following this complaint, Dr. Saraki, as a responsible citizen, on his own volition approached the commission that at the earliest convenient date, he was willing to visit the commission’s office and clarify all issues they might want to raise with him. 17-Year-Old Student Stabs Teacher To Death In Bukuru, Plateau State   A 17-year old student of Government Technical College Bukuru, Plateau State has murdered his own teacher, Job Dashe.  Dashe, a Physics tutor was stabbed to death during the week, leaving behind a pregnant wife whom he married last year November.  The deceased was a graduate of the University of Jos.

AS 4-MAN SPECIAL INVESTIGATION PANEL BEGINS PROBE The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc has recommended the immediate suspension of DCP Abba Kyari, the Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), from the Service of the Nigeria Police Force, pending the outcome of an ongoing internal investigations touching on him. The IGP, in his letter to the Police Service Commission, dated 31st July, 2021, noted that the recommendation for the suspension of the officer, is in line with the internal disciplinary processes of the Force.  The IGP further noted that the suspension is also expected to create an enabling environment for the NPF Special Investigation Panel to carry out its investigations into the weighty allegations against DCP Abba Kyari without interference.   A 10-year-old girl in Baringo, Kenya, who was allegedly raped by her aunt's husband for three years, has died. The standard three pupil succumbed to the injuries at Sunrise Children’s home in Kabarnet in Baringo Central. The suspect, Haron Cherono,60, is on the run. "The child was brought to our institution two months ago but little did we know her health was in critical condition,” the home’s manager, Titus Barmasa, said on Friday, July 30. He said the family didn’t provide them with the girl’s medical report, which would have helped them arrange for specialised treatment. Barmasai said at midnight the girl asked for someone to hold her stomach. She also asked to be given water, mangoes and soda before she collapsed and died on June 24. Until her death, the girl had a swollen head, face and limbs. She had lost her appetite and couldn't walk. She was allegedly defiled numerous times by her aunt's husband at their home in Baringo North subcounty since 2019. "My u
