The Ilorin Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has secured the conviction of three persons arrested by the anti-graft agency in Ado Ekiti for offences bordering on cybercrime and prosecuted before Justice Mohammed Sanni of the Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State. They are Ojo David Oluwatosin, Oreoluwa Ayub and Adetoyi Sodiq, all charged on one count each. The trio upon conviction were sentenced to six months imprisonment to serve as deterrent to others of like minds.  The three convicted persons were arraigned on separate counts on Thursday, July 16, 2021 and pleaded guilty to their charges. The Kano Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested twenty suspected Internet fraudsters in Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State. The suspects who were mostly youth in their early twenties were arrested by a team of operatives of the Commission following intelligence indicating that some Internet fraudsters were perpetrating fraudulent activities around Dutsinma Local Government  Area of Katsina State. On the strength of the intelligence, a team of operatives was dispatched and they effected a raid on their  hideouts and arrested the suspects. The remains of the former Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army, late  Major General Huseini Ahmed has been laid to rest at Guards Brigade Cemetery Abuja. Late Major General Huseini Ahmed was killed on 15 July 2021 by unknown gunmen while travelling on Lokaja -Abuja road.   In his remarks during the funeral rites, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya described the late senior officer as an articulate, dedicated, loyal and highly professional officer in the discharge of his duties. Indian television Actress 'Surekha Sikri' passed away today 16th of July 2021. The popular actress appeared in many series including, Chasing my heart,Once a queen and King,Saloni,Young love and many others. Sikri won three National Film Awards between 1988 and 2018 and starred in hit soap Balika Vadhu for eight years.  She had been ill for some time, having had two strokes in the past four years. Sikri, who was born in New Delhi, won her National Film Awards for Tamas, Mammo and Badhaai Ho.   Film-maker Shyam Benegal, who worked with her on Mammo, told the Press Trust of India: "She was such a brilliant actor that whatever role you gave her she would own it.   "She played both sympathetic and non-sympathetic roles with elan. Justice Aneke gave the order, following an ex-parte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The Judge had, on June 18, 2021, ordered the interim forfeiture of the money and also directed anyone with lawful interest in the money to show cause why it should not be finally forfeited to the Federal Government. The charge on which the defendant was convicted reads, “that you, Hauwa Nasiru Garba “female” sometime in 2019 in Kaduna within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court did commit an offence, to wit: cheating by impersonation, when you pretended to be a Military Officer and dishonesty induced Muhammed Idris to deliver to you the sum of Sixty Seven Thousand Naira (N67,000.00) thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 308 of the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State, 2017 and punishable under Section 309 of the same Law”. COURT SENTENCES COUPLE TO 3 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR STARVING AND CONFINING 12-YEARS OLD NIECE IN FRIDGE FOR EIGHT MONTHS IN SOKOTO.{PHOTOS}.

The Sokoto Magistrate Court has sentenced one Emmanuel Bassey and his wife, Esther to three years imprisonment with N275,000 fine for starving and confining their 12-year-old niece in an unused fridge for eight months.   The State Police Command had rescued the victim, Joy Emmanuel, at her guardians' home in the Sokoto Cinema area of Sokoto North Local Government Area.   The couple said she was locked up because of her unstable mental condition, a claim which was later proved to be false by the police. Read previous report HERE   Delivering his judgement on Wednesday, Chief Magistrate Shu’aibu Ahmad fined the couple N25,000 or six months jail term for criminal conspiracy.   He also fined them N50,000 for wrongful confinement and in default they would spend 12 months in prison.    He averred that the couple were found guilty of cruelty to child and sentenced them to 12 months imprisonment with N100,000 fine each, and in default they would spend three years in prison.   Ahmad noted t

Four women were on Wednesday arrested in Benin City for selling donkey meat, known as ‘jaki’ to unsuspecting buyers at the New Benin Market, in Edo State. Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Peter Aikhuomobhogbe, who led the team to effect the arrest said the team was alerted that some persons were engaged in the sales of the meat despite its prohibition in the state. According to the Permanent Secretary, "this is an issue of food safety. In Edo state, donkey meat is not approved as one of the meats that we consume but our people still indulge in it.
