 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week. GUINEA PRESIDENT ALPHA CONDE,PARDONED 171 CONVICTS.

               On thursday,Guinea President Alpha Conde pardoned 171 people convicted by the justice system,including a leading opposition figure accused of involvement in a plot to assassinate him.Mamadou Oury Bah,known as Bah Oury,was on a list of those whose sentences were partially or totally revoked by a presidential decree.Bah was a founder and number two in the UFDG  party,currently headed by Cellou Dalein Diallo,who came second to Conde in an October presidential election.He was convicted along with five others and given a life sentence for his alleged involvement in a 2011 assassination attempt against Conde.He lives in exile in France.In an act viewed by some as a potential easing of tensions,Conde met with Bah in Paris following his re-election.One more photo below.                                                 ...

THE BOMB AL-SHABAAB MILITANTS WERE PLANTING TO KILL PEOPLE WITH,BLEW THEM UP INSTEAD TODAY IN KENYA.

               A suspected Al-Shabaab fighter was killed and several wounded after an improvised Explosive Device they were mounting on the road,exploded on them.The militants were escaping from the police who had intercepted them.The incident occurred today saturday at Dabasti area near the town of Elwak in Kenya.A manhunt is currently underway for the gang that escaped.Security patrols have since intensified in major cities after authorities warned that terror threats in the country were real following the split of Al-Shabaab into two one group supporting ISIL and the other Al-Qaeda.

OVER 200 SHOPS IN IBADAN PLANK MARKET GOT BURNT TO ASHES YESTERDAY.

               Yesterday friday ''Christmas day'',more than 200 shops in Sango Plank Market Ibadan Oyo state,was burnt to ashes.The shops were located at Alaro area of Sano.The fire was said to have started at about 3:00 pm and it was still burning as at 7:30pm with the men of the Oyo State Fire Service struggling to put it out.The loss in the fire is estimated at N250 million.It was gathered that the fire was fuelled by the large stock of planks in each of the shops and heaps of saw dust scattered around the market,coupled with the effect of the dry season.Only one fire service tanker was at the scene of the incident.As a form of self help,traders ordered tankers of wateradd to the water needed by fire fighters.The traders wailed as they saw their wares in flames with efforts too little to quench the raging fire.Apart from the planks,several sawing machines and other logging equipments were lost in the fire.One of the affected traded simply ident...
