  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. 𝐀 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐑𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐥 I was fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life. It has been an honour and a privilege to accompany her on her final journeys. Witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on these journeys has been both humbling and uplifting. We will all share unique memories. I offer my thanks to each and every one who share our sense of loss. We may have been reminded how much of her presence and contribution to our national identity we took for granted.  I am also so grateful for the support and understanding offered to my dear brother Charles as he accepts the added responsibilities of The Monarch. To my mother, The Queen, thank you.

Her Majesty The Queen’s coffin has arrived at Buckingham Palace, where it will rest overnight in the Bow Room. Tomorrow the coffin will be borne in Procession on a Gun Carriage of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery to the Palace of Westminster, where The Queen will Lie-in-State in Westminster Hall until the morning of the State Funeral. Gunmen Intercept Ambulance Carrying Dead Body In Abia Community, Kidnap 2 Persons Gunmen suspected to be bandits intercepted an ambulance conveying a dead body to Isuikwuato community in Abia State. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, took place around Umunneochi/Ihube Okigwe axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, a family source told ABNTV. The publication gathered that the ambulance was coming from Abraka in Delta State when the incident occurred. According to the family source, armed bandits waylaid the vehicle conveying the corpse and dragged out the occupants, abandoning the coffin in the vehicle on the road. The source who said the deceased was his uncle’s wife, said the abductors whisked the victims including the deceased woman’s daughter, another relation, and the driver of the hearse into the bush. KOGI GOVT SEALS FIRST BANK BRANCHES OVER ALLEGED TAX EVASION Kogi State Government has sealed-off all First Bank Nigeria PLC branches operating in the State. The action was on the order of a Kogi High Court sitting in Lokoja. DAILY POST reports that this was effected on Monday by Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), following what it described as the inability of the bank to liquidate its outstanding tax liabilities of over N411.12 million to Kogi State Government. Speaking with journalists on the development in his office, Bar. Saidu Okino, Director, Legal Services of the KGIRS, said the amount represents outstanding withholding tax from the bank’s mobile banking agents from 2015 to 2022. He said that the action of the board was as a result of the refusal of the bank to liquidate the liability despite several demand notices to that effect. BRIDGE COLLAPSES ALONG MINNA-BIDA ROAD The dilapidated bridge on Bida-Minna Road has finally collapsed at Sagamio Farms, about 23 kilometres from Bida and 60 kilometres from Minna thereby cutting off the two major towns in Niger State. LEADERSHIP gathered that the collapse of the bridge was as a result of the torrential rainfall across the state for the past five days. It was learned that the water flowing under the bridge is one of the tributaries of River Niger that has overflowed its banks as a result of the rains. Finding revealed that the rain has flooded most towns and villages along the banks and has destroyed the bridge turning it into a large chasm. “The bridge collapsed totally on Sunday. Consequently, commuters plying the Minna-Bida Road are stranded as you can see,” a villager, Ismaila Abubakar said. Anambra  woman declared wanted over missing 16-year-old mother, baby The Anambra Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons said it has launched a manhunt for the woman allegedly behind the missing of a 16-year-old mother and her three-month-old baby. The State Commander of NAPTIP, Mrs Judith-Chukwu Ibadin, told newsmen in Awka on Monday that the suspect took the mother and baby to Ghana. Ibadin said that the suspect engaged one Nzube Nwakamma, 22, to recruit a girl that could work in her restaurant in Ghana for N100,000 monthly pay. She alleged that the suspect, who is said to be resident in Ghana, had successfully moved her victim from Anambra to Ghana for prostitution. She said that Nwakamma, who facilitated the illicit travel, had been arrested and was assisting the agency in its investigation. Court Jails One in Benue for N7million Fraud Justice A.R Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi,  Benue State, has convicted and sentenced James Ebute Adejoh to one year imprisonment for Point of Sale, POS, fraud to the tune of N7,118,000 (Seven Million One Hundred and Eighteen Thousand Naira). He was jailed after pleading guilty to one- count charge preferred against him by the Makurdi Zonal Command of the EFCC.

EFCC Arraigns Ilorin Civil Servant for False Information The Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC has arraigned a 43-year old Kwara State civil servant, Lambe Binta, before Justice Muhammed Sani of the Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin for giving false information.  Binta was arraigned on Monday, September 12, 2022  on one- count charge bordering on internet fraud and possession of fraudulent funds. Specifically,  she allegedly received the sum of N25,000 (Twenty-Five Thousand Naira Only) from one Faloye Oluwadamilola Victor, who was arrested by the EFCC,  for offences bordering on internet fraud and possession of fraudulent funds.

EFCC Arrests 22 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Uyo Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Command of the EFCC have arrested 22 suspected internet fraudsters within Akwa Ibom State. They were arrested in a sting operation on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. The all-male suspects, whose ages range between 18 to 24 years, were arrested at their various hideouts in Uyo and Ikot Ekpene areas of the State, following verified intelligence regarding their nefarious activities. Items recovered from the suspects include, a silver -coloured Toyota Corolla car, as well as various brands of sophisticated mobile phones and laptops. The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
