  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. By that, I mean it was essentially set up to be an agency that was saddled with the responsibility of protecting shippers. And in this case, we are talking about protecting the interest of importers and exporters on matters relating to the movement of cargo from point of origin to the point of destination. It is also meant to protect the shippers in the area of freight rate, the standard of services, and local shipping charges. This has been the case up till 2014 when the Federal Government enacted the reforms that we have in our maritime domain now. So, the government in its wisdom now discovered that there was a vacuum that had existed in the course of the reform that was considered; there wasn’t a regulator as far as the commercial activities in the port are concerned. CONTRAVENTION: LSTMB SEALS PREMISES OF PRACTITIONERS FOR FLOUTING REGULATORY LAW The Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board (LSTMB) has started sealing up premises of Traditional Medicine Practitioners for continued violation of rules and regulations guiding the practice in the State. Those affected include Traditional Birth Attendants, Faith-Based Healers and Bone Setters. The exercise, which was carried out in collaboration with the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, affected no fewer than seven practitioners, in Mushin, Somolu and Bariga environs. Speaking during the exercise, the Registrar of the Board, Mr. Olorunkemi Olawale Kadiku, explained that the exercise was long overdue following expiration of the March deadline given to allow the practitioners to register with the State Government. A member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Sagir Mai Iyali has asked the party’s presidential screening committee to disqualify one of the aspirants, Bola Ahmed Tinubu over alleged certificate forgery. In a petition sent to John Odigie Oyegun, chairman of the presidential screening committee of the APC, Iyali said Tinubu never graduated from the University of Chicago. He added that the former governor lied about his age and state of origin. The APC member further asked that the former Lagos governor shouldn’t be allowed to participate in the June 7 primary of the party. “We understand that Bola Ahmed Tinubu who has since procured his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms and has submitted same to the party has certain issues that clearly amount to a similar disqualification scenario. Former president, Goodluck Jonathan, has revealed that he’s in Como, Italy for a meeting of the European Corporate Council on Africa and the Middle East International Advisory Board. Jonathan was appointed into the Council earlier this month. Sharing photos from the meeting, Jonathan said, “Great time today in Como, Italy, at the meeting of Ecam Council International Advisory Board where members held a preparatory session ahead of this year's Council Summit. -GEJ” As the ruling All Progressives Congress screens its presidential aspirants on Monday, it had been speculated that Jonathan will be among those who would be screened. Man Convicted for $150 Investment Scam In Lagos The Lagos Command of the EFCC on May 30, 2022, secured the conviction of one Adeyemi Emmanuel before Justice Sherifat Solebo of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos for offence bordering on retention of proceeds of crime to the tune of $150. He was accused of engaging in illegal online activities to defraud his victims in an investment scam. The charge reads: "Adeyemi Oluwashina Emmanuel, sometime between the period of March 2020 and October 2021, within the Ikeja Judicial Division of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, retained the aggregate sum of $150 obtained from unsuspecting members of the public." He pleaded "guilty" to the charge when it was read to him.

SHEEP SENTENCED TO 3-YEARS IN PRISON FOR MAULING A 45-YR-OLD WOMAN TO DEATH. (PHOTOS).

A sheep has been sent to prison for three years for mauling a woman to death in a field and will be forced to live with the bereaved family once released. According to reports, a court ruled that the owner of the sheep, Duony Manyang Dhal, will also have to handover five cows to the victim's relatives before losing the guilty livestock after it has served its sentence. After fatally attacking 45-year-old Adhieu Chaping in Rumbek East, South Sudan, earlier this month.  It headbutted the woman repeatedly, breaking her ribs. The sheep was taken into police custody after she was discovered dead, the force announced.  The town's Major Elijah Mabor explained: “The owner is innocent and the ram is the one who perpetrated the crime so it deserves to be arrested then later on the case shall be forwarded to customary court where the case can be handed amicably." Security operatives arrest one of those who beheaded Soludo’s lawmaker A member of the notorious gang suspected to be responsible for beheading a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s constituency, Okechukwu Okoye was allegedly arrested today at Amichi in Nnewi South local government area of Anambra State. The man whose name was given as Nnahadi Michael, was arrested by special tactical teams. His accomplice said to be a native doctor is still at large, but it was gathered that his shrine was destroyed. The suspect, who is already in custody, admitted during questioning to being part of the killer gang, saying that they killed three politicians, including the beheaded lawmaker. “We first of all strip them naked so they can say the truth”, he said.  More photos below.
