 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has donated a multi-million naira Bar complex to the Nigeria Bar Association, Owo Branch.  The massive complex, named after the Governor, was commissioned on Wednesday by the first female Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Folake Solanke, CON.  The wife of the Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu graced the occasion.  Legal luminaries across the country including the President of the NBA, Mr Olumide Akpata; Chief Akin Olujinmi, SAN; Joe-Kyari Gadzama, SAN; and other eminent lawyers from within and outside the state witnessed the colorful event.  The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye; and other royal fathers also graced the occasion.  The commissioning of the Bar Complex was part of the activities marking the 2021 Law Week organised by the NBA, Owo, to honour their Grand Patron, Governor Akeredolu, on his 65th birthday.  The Law Library within the complex was also named after

Wears hijab to evade detection; 465kg of skunk seized in Ondo A 36-year-old lady, Chioma Afam, who uses multiple identities and wears hijab to evade security scrutiny has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA in Benue state along with her partner, Peace Chidinma Caleb, 22, for trying to smuggle a total of 296,000 tablets of Diazepam and Exol-5 from Onitsha, Anambra state to Gombe state. Chioma who uses multiple names such as Amina, Uzoamaka and Ifunaya to cover her criminal activities was arrested on Saturday 17th July, 2021, along with the 22-year-old Peace Chidinma Caleb who also wears hijab as a cover for her nefarious activities during routine checks and profiling of inward vehicles into Makurdi, the Benue state capital. In a statement on Wednesday, the governor’s spokesman, Abba Anwar, said that the pardon was part of measures to decongest the correctional centres in the state.   Anwar added that the governor gave the inmates five thousand Naira to use as transport money for them to go back to their various destinations. He, however, noted that Ganduje asked the inmates to be people of sound character when they are finally reintegrated into society.  Ganduje said some of the inmates were pardoned either owing to ill-health or because they have stayed longer than necessary.   He said some others were incarcerated because they were not able to pay the fines against them.  “In your position as Nigerians who deserve to be taken care of, we are here today, Sallah Day, to celebrate with you this great Sallah period, by way of releasing some of you who are pardoned.   “We are here to also see how you are feeling and to share our joyous moment with you. Court Sends Two Internet Fraudsters to Two Years in Prison The Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has  secured  the conviction of two internet fraudsters - Noah Omoregbe  (a.k.a Frank Mark) and Destiny Efewengbe (a.k.a William Scot ) before Justice Efe Ikponmwonba of the Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State. The defendants were arraigned on one count charge each of personation and intent to defraud contrary to section 484 of the Criminal Code Law Cap 48 Laws of defunct Bendel State of Nigeria (as applicable in Edo State) 1976 and punishable under the same Law. The charge against Omoregbe reads: "that you Noah Omoregbe (a.k.a Frank Mark) on or about the 21st day of June 2021 at Yoruba Street, Benin City, within the jurisdiction of this Hounourable Court, did with intent to defraud, falsely represented yourself as one Frank Mark, an American Soldier, and sent scam messages to one Liud Mila via your iPhone X with IMEI No: 354862

Two Suspected Thieves Burnt Beyond Recognition In Awka  Two suspected thieves were set ablaze yesterday, Tuesday, 20th July, 2021, opposite Queen suite, Abakaliki street, Awka, Anambra State, at 11 pm,  after a hot chase by a vigilante group an eyewitness disclosed.  It was alleged that before the apprehension of the suspected thieves, they had engaged in theft, and made away with the phone of a passer-by. This act was said to have propelled the vigilante group to hunt them.  The group which opened fire created panic in the temporary site (temp site) area sending people to their heels. However, after a clear chase of the suspected thieves, serenity was maintained in the area.  It was gathered that the thieves were immediately set ablaze upon interception and their bodies burnt beyond recognition.  Some passersby think that the act would serve as a deterrent to others who are or play to engage in robbery.  No security agent was at the location as of the time of filing this report.

A top security source in the Benin Republic confided in The PUNCH that the former Chief of Army Staff wrote the government of the small West African country and insisted on the arrest and extradition of Igboho. It was gathered that Buratai was at the forefront of the ongoing move to extradite the activist. A few hours after Igboho’s arrest on Monday, his  Beninese lawyers and other experts met with some  Benin Republic government officials and called for the halting of his extradition. Buratai, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff between July 2015 and January 2021, was deployed as Nigeria’s envoy in the Benin Republic in June 2021.
