 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. In a statement on Wednesday, the governor’s spokesman, Abba Anwar, said that the pardon was part of measures to decongest the correctional centres in the state.   Anwar added that the governor gave the inmates five thousand Naira to use as transport money for them to go back to their various destinations. Court Sends Two Internet Fraudsters to Two Years in Prison The Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has  secured  the conviction of two internet fraudsters - Noah Omoregbe  (a.k.a Frank Mark) and Destiny Efewengbe (a.k.a William Scot ) before Justice Efe Ikponmwonba of the Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State. The defendants were arraigned on one count charge each of personation and intent to defraud contrary to section 484 of the Criminal Code Law Cap 48 Laws of defunct Bendel State of Nigeria (as applicable in Edo State) 1976 and punishable under the same Law. The charge against Omoregbe reads: "that you Noah Omoregbe (a.k.a Frank Mark) on or about the 21st day of June 2021 at Yoruba Street, Benin City, within the jurisdiction of this Hounourable Court, did with intent to defraud, falsely represented yourself as one Frank Mark, an American Soldier, and sent scam messages to one Liud Mila via your iPhone X with IMEI No: 354862

Two Suspected Thieves Burnt Beyond Recognition In Awka  Two suspected thieves were set ablaze yesterday, Tuesday, 20th July, 2021, opposite Queen suite, Abakaliki street, Awka, Anambra State, at 11 pm,  after a hot chase by a vigilante group an eyewitness disclosed.  It was alleged that before the apprehension of the suspected thieves, they had engaged in theft, and made away with the phone of a passer-by. This act was said to have propelled the vigilante group to hunt them.  The group which opened fire created panic in the temporary site (temp site) area sending people to their heels. However, after a clear chase of the suspected thieves, serenity was maintained in the area.  It was gathered that the thieves were immediately set ablaze upon interception and their bodies burnt beyond recognition.  Some passersby think that the act would serve as a deterrent to others who are or play to engage in robbery.  No security agent was at the location as of the time of filing this report.

A top security source in the Benin Republic confided in The PUNCH that the former Chief of Army Staff wrote the government of the small West African country and insisted on the arrest and extradition of Igboho. It was gathered that Buratai was at the forefront of the ongoing move to extradite the activist. A few hours after Igboho’s arrest on Monday, his  Beninese lawyers and other experts met with some  Benin Republic government officials and called for the halting of his extradition.
