 Court adjourns case seeking to sack 27 pro-Wike lawmakers A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has adjourned till June 3, 2024 the hearing for a suit filed by members of the Rivers State Civil Society Organisation seeking to sack 27 lawmakers of the State House of Assembly. When the parties arrived at the Court for hearing on the matter on Friday, the Clerk of the court informed them that the Judge, Justice Stephen Daylop Pam was indisposed and a new date was picked. The CSO’s had approached the court to seek interpretation of Section 109 of the 1999 Constitution and whether the lawmakers, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress still have legal rights to remain as lawmakers of their constituencies.        The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said the Buhari Administration is working and the results are showing in the various sectors of the economy. The Minister stated this at the 4th Annual Conference of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) in Kano on Wednesday, nothing that pulling Nigeria out of recession was not by accident.        The Lagos State Government, through the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT), is set to introduce technology in its bids to eradicate and successfully empower citizens in the fight against Gender-Based Violence. Speaking on Tuesday at a media parley held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa to commemorate the Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month, the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, who is also the Chairman of DSVRT, said the State Government has concluded plans to launch a short service code to avail residents the opportunity of reporting cases of domestic violence, sexual abuse, child abuse and other related offences with ease.      Less than twelve months to the 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State, critical stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State have adopted the Deputy Governor, Prof Kolapo Olusola, from Ekiti South Senatorial District, as the preferred candidate of the party. KWIRS REMITS N198M TO KWARA LGS IN 8 MONTHS.

     A total of N198, 484, 720.96 has been remitted by the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) to the 16 local government councils in the State between January and August, 2017, being taxes collected on their behalf within the period under review. The breakdown was contained in a report released by the Revenue Service on Wednesday in Ilorin. According to the report, the total revenue remitted to the 16 local governments (LGs) in January was N27, 667, 550.98, while in February, N25, 860, 106.14 was remitted to their accounts. For March, they got a total of 28, 353, 648.17. In April, KWIRS remitted 24, 034, 830.10 to the LGs and 24, 174, 940.23 in May. In June, the LGs received 26, 745, 259.84 and for July, they got a total of 25, 932, 652.15. However, for the month of August, the revenue that has been remitted to the LGs as at 24th of August stood at 15, 715, 733.35. LSACA TARGETS 36,000 FOR HIV TEST IN IKORODU.

            The Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) is targeting 36,000 residents of Ikorodu division to be screened for HIV with focus on Imota, Igbogbo/Baiyeku, Ijede, Ikorodu West and Ikorodu North Local Council Development Areas. The Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Dr. Oluseyi Temowo disclosed this during the flag-off ceremony to commence the screening exercise at the Ajegunle - Ikorodu community in Ikorodu. Dr. Temowo stated that efforts were being put in place to screen as many residents of Lagos State as possible to achieve the global 90-90-90 initiative, stressing that the present administration is passionate about the health of Lagos residents. He therefore called on the Baale and the Elders of the Community to help mobilize their wives and children including their neighbours to come out en-masse to access the free HIV Counseling and Testing Services being carried out by the Agency in the area. LAGOS TO REDEVELOP IKOTA HOUSING ESTATE.

             In furtherance of its determination to reduce the three million housing deficit in the State, the Lagos State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ativa Riley Investment Limited, a subsidiary of Multipurpose Infrastructural Development Company Limited, for the redevelopment of the Ikota Housing Estate. The Commissioner for Housing, Prince Gbolahan Lawal, who signed the MoU on behalf of the State Government said  that the agreement will see the construction of 500 housing units comprising of 200 units two bedroom flats, 200 units three bedroom maisonette flats and 100 units of four bedroom semi-detached apartments with complementary infrastructure that include: perimeter fencing, roads/pedestrian walkways, concrete drainage, car parks, water and sewage reticulation, aeration facilities, lift station, ground and overhead water treatment plant etc. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Lawal stated that the redevelopment is in line with the present

         On the 4th of September, 2017 at about the hours of 5pm, there occurred a clash between Soldiers attached to 14 Brigade Command Ohafia and tricycle Operators at Isi-Gate Umuahia during which three soldiers got injured and their Hilux van damaged. The Nigeria Police saddled with the responsibility of ensuring security of lives and property waded into the situation with other military deployments and the situation was brought under control. However, ten suspects involved have been arraigned in a court of competent jurisdiction where they were admitted to bail. The Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Adeleye Oyebade therefore enjoins all and sundry to go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation as adequate security has been put in place to avert truncation of the peace and tranquility enjoyed in the State.
