 Tea vendors lament low patronage over high price Tea makers popularly known as ‘Mai shayi” say their business is witnessing low patronage, especially for Indomie noodles as the price continues to increase rapidly. They spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Sunday while reacting to the incessant increase in the price of Indomie instant noodles. NAN reports that Mai shayi, which means tea makers in the Hausa language, is operated mainly by Hausa men in makeshift kiosks. They are found in estates and by the roadside in different parts of Abuja and they sell fast food like noodles, fried eggs, bread, and tea.  Govt Moves To Protect Hippopotamus In Nasarawa *** The Nasarawa State Government said it is working to preserve the population of hippopotamus in the state to prevent the animals from extinction. The Director, Veterinary Services in the state’s Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Abdullahi Musa, stated this when he spoke on Sunday in Lafia. The population of the hippopotamus in the world is estimated at between 125, 000 and 148,000, according to some statistics. Mr Musa said that the population of the animals had dropped to about 13 in the state from the previous figure of 20 due mainly to the activities of hunters and poachers. “Nasarawa State is among the few states in Nigeria, where you have hippopotamus, they are found in the Ugah community in Lafia. I think the other state where you find them is Kebbi, as they are found in Yauri in Birnin-Kebbi,” he said.  Criticisms as Mr Ibu’s adopted daughter, Jasmine renames actor’s Tiktok account Barely 24 hours after the passing of veteran Nollywood actor, John Okafor, aka Mr Ibu, his adopted daughter, Jasmine, has changed his personal Tiktok account of over 1 million followers to her own name. A check on the late actor’s Tiktok page on Sunday revealed that the account has now been renamed to #LadyJasminec_live. Jasmine also appeared to have deleted all the late actor’s videos except the ones featuring her. The development has sparked uproar on social media, with fans of the late actor berating Jasmine of “tampering” with his legacy. Recall that the actor passed away on Saturday night, weeks after returning from hospital following successful surgeries that led to amputation of one of his legs.  Looting of NEMA warehouse, symptom of impending revolution – Shehu Sani warns Former lawmaker and social critic, Senator Shehu Sani, has reacted to the alleged looting of a warehouse belonging to the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria, NEMA, by some residents of the Federal Capital Terrritory, FCT. According to Sani, the development is a dangerous symptom of an impending revolution. Some residents of the FCT had looted a warehouse belonging to the NEMA amid the current economic hardship across the country. It was gathered that the residents carted away foodstuffs and other items. “Masses looting foodstuffs from a Government Warehouse in our oil rich Nigeria is a dangerous symptom of an impending revolution that must be averted or contained,” he wrote on his X handle on Sunday.  Why we banned political gatherings – Benue govt The Benue State Government has stated reasons it banned political gatherings and meetings in the state. It said the insecurity in the state made Governor Hyacinth Alia to take the measure. The state government said the ban covers all forms of intra-party and inter-group meetings in the north-central state till further notice. This was revealed by the governor’s Chief of Staff, Paul Biam, adding that the ban became necessary because of the volatility of the security atmosphere in Benue. He lamented that the security atmosphere became charged, following what he described as the unprecedented influx of armed herdsmen into the state. The Chief of Staff in his letter to the state Commissioner of Police, urged him to enforce the directive on the ban.

The brother of late comic Yoruba actor, Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji popularly known as Sisi Quadri, has opened up on his death. In an interview, he narrated how his brother died just a year after his mother died. He recounted how they were called on February 19th that Sisi Quadri had collapsed on a movie set, so one of their brothers picked him up from there. He revealed that a day before the news, Sisi had sent money for his mother’s one-year remembrance to build a well and had constructed a borehole last year in honor of her. His brother disclosed that Qaudri was taken to the hospital and they treated him for malaria, but he was discharged on the 26th.  I am deeply saddened by the passing of my former Senior Special Assistant on Works and Infrastructure, Abdulraheem Owokoniran.  Abdulraheem was a young Nigerian politician with visionary ideas for nation building and development. He was a staunch party loyalist and a champion of programs aimed at benefiting the masses.  My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and colleagues, including my Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe who is a brother to the deceased.  Abdulraheem’s dedication to our party and his contributions to the growth of Lagos State will be dearly missed. Ogazi of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos have convicted and sentenced two internet fraudsters; Oluwafemi Abdulwaheed Rasaq and Chris Onabulu to various jail terms for romance scam and impersonation They were jailed after pleading guilty to one-count separate charge bordering on cyber crimes upon being arraigned by the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.   The count against Rasag reads: “That you, Oluwafemi Abdulwaheed  Rasaq Sometime between January and September 2023 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court fraudulently impersonated one Amanda Valery Malpica by holding yourself out as such on your Facebook and Instagram App, with intent to gain advantage for yourself and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 22(2)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act, 2015."   The count against Onabulu  reads
