The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami says the fifth-generation (5G) network is not harmful, allaying fears in many quarters that its deployment could pose a risk to public health.  Pantami said that the benefits that accrue from using the 5G network include larger capacity, higher data rates among other economic, health, security and educational opportunities “These are the three major benefits of the fifth generation. And in a simple language, we can say it will open many opportunities economically, academically, educationally, and even in the health sector. And it will also support our security institutions, particularly in areas where they need high-quality services.”

The Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, on Thursday September 9, 2021 arrested thirty three (33) suspected internet fraudsters during a sting operation at different locations in Calabar, Cross River state. Seventeen of the arrested suspects were picked up at a location on Post Office Street, Royal Estate, off Ekot Onin, while ten (10) were apprehended at No.1 Marian Owan by Lemena junction. LAGOS TO SET UP MEDICAL PARK ON AWOLOWO ROAD, IKOYI As part of initiatives to reform the health sector in Lagos State and build facilities that meet global standards, the Office of Public-Private Partnerships, in conjunction with the Ministry of Health, has concluded plans to set up a Medical Park on 2.175 hectares of land along Awolowo Road, Ikoyi.  According to a statement signed by the Director-General, Office of Public-Private Partnerships (OPPP), Mr. Ope George, the parcel of land, which formerly housed the School of Nursing, will be developed into an ultra-modern Medical Centre with state-of-the-art equipment and infrastructure. At least eighteen passengers heading to Lagos have been kidnapped in Ondo state. The passengers, who were travelling in a Toyota Hiace bus, were said to have been abducted along Idoani-Ifira Akoko in the Akoko South-East Local Government Area of the state. They were said to have been marched into a forest after their attackers ordered them out of the vehicle at gunpoint. The incident reportedly occurred on a failed section of the major road. The Divisional Police Officer for Isua Akoko, Hakeem Sadiq confirmed the incident to reporters. Sadiq said the case had been reported to the police and that the anti-kidnapping unit was already working with sister agencies to ensure that the travellers were rescued unhurt.

At least 13 Local Government Areas are affected by the development which may not be unconnected with the ongoing security operations against bandits in the North West. NCC had issued a directive to telecom operators to shut down their services in the neighbouring Zamfara State as from September 3, to enable security agencies carry out required operations in relation to the pervasive security challenges.

Court Convicts Kaduna Undergraduate Over Fake Dubai ‘Runs’ Justice Hannatu A.L Balogun of Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kaduna today, September 9, 2021 convicted and sentenced one Nehemiah Joel to four months in prison on a one count charge of cybercrime.  His journey to prison began when he decided to pose in the social media as a female prostitute based in Dubai, United Arab Emirate, to defraud unsuspecting victims, mostly middle aged men after assuming the identity of one Chloe Adler, a white hooker.
