 NIGERIAN ARMY TROOPS APPREHEND HUMAN TRAFFICKER IN LAGOS, RESCUE VICTIM Troops of 65 Bn Nigerian Army (NA) operating under the 81 Division NA, have successfully apprehended a human trafficker in Lagos. Following actionable intelligence, Mrs Olushola Areke was arrested in connection with human trafficking. The suspect was accused of kidnapping Miss Fayoke Kunle, a 22-year-old daughter of Mrs Ainor Kunle. Mrs. Kunle claimed she had voluntarily entrusted her daughter to the suspect, who had promised to secure employment for the young girl in Oshodi, Lagos. However, instead of heading to Oshodi as promised, the suspect moved Miss Kunle to Kano, where the victim later discovered herself and overheard discussions about being transported to Libya. Miss Kunle courageously escaped from her captor and returned home on 23 April 2024. At least eight members of a Ugandan music band have been arrested for allegedly insulting President Yoweri Museveni. The eight, who belong to the Crane Performers group, had complained about President Museveni's "long" speech at a wedding anniversary celebration on Saturday. Museveni was the chief guest when Uganda's former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi was celebrating 50 years of marriage.  Soludo bans extra mural classes in Anambra schools Governor Chukwuma Soludo has banned the extension of classes in all schools in Anambra State and directed all schools to dismiss by 2:30 pm. A Federal Capital Territory High Court on Monday ordered the Deadly Plot actress to pay the amount to the cleric as damages. According to a certified true copy of the judgement, Apostle Suleman accused the actress of publishing derogatory comments against him on her Instagram page, which were in turn published by several blogs and newspapers.  Edo: Obaseki swears in Omobayo Marvellous Godwins as Shaibu's replacement Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has sworn-in Omobayo Marvellous Godwins as the new deputy governor of the state. Omobayo replaced Philip Shaibu, who was earlier impeached by the State House of Assembly on Monday morning. Shaibu was impeached by the House of Assembly after the adoption of the report of the Justice S. A. Omonua (rtd)-led impeachment panel. The panel was set up by the Chief Judge of Edo State to investigate allegations of misconduct and perjury against Shaibu. Eighteen out of the 20 lawmakers that attended the plenary on Monday, April 8, 2024 voted in favour of the impeachment while one voted against. In the report, the seven-man panel found the former deputy governor guilty of leaking government official secrets. But he was not found guilty of the allegation of perjury. Aderounmu’s death was confirmed by her brother, Adeola Aderounmu, in a cryptic post on Instagram captioned, “You are in a better place now, my sister,” with Aderounmu’s obituary photo. Oshodi of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos for an alleged $4.5bn and N2.8bn fraud. Emefiele was arraigned alongside one Henry Omoile on an amended 26-count charge.  EFCC Arraigns Binance, Executive for Alleged $34m Money Laundering   The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Monday, April 8, 2024 arraigned Binance Holdings Ltd and one of its executives, Tigran Gambaryan before Justice Emeka Nwite of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. They were arraigned on a 5-count charge bordering on alleged tax evasion, currency speculation and money laundering to the tune of $34,400,000 (Thirty-Four Million, Four Hundred Thousand United States Dollars).   At the last adjourned date, the second defendant, Tigran Gambaryan had claimed that he was not an agent, director, or a representative of the Binance Company in Nigeria and should not be served on behalf of the first defendant. The operatives of the FCT police command, on April 4, 2024, at about 2:00 PM, arrested one Chukwuemeka Oputa A.K.A. Pounds and Dollar 'm', 38 years old, of Umuaka, Njaba, Imo State, and the leader of an armed robbery gang responsible for series of armed robberies and other heinous crimes in FCT. His arrest is consequent upon the apprehension of one Moses Hassan 'm' of Idda, Kogi State, a cultist, and member of the armed robbery gang, on February 14, 2024. Investigation subsequently led police operatives to the arrest of three other gang members, namely: Praise Etta, 30 years 'old, of Etung, Cross River State; Rafael Dav A.K.A.  ‘Kidnap Kingpin’ Wadume Receives Heroic Welcome In Taraba After Jail Term A large crowd welcomed “kidnap kingpin”, Hamisu Bala, better known as Wadume, to his hometown in Ibbi Taraba State, on Sunday. Wadume, who was arrested by men of the Intelligence Response Team of Inspector-General of Police, in 2019, was released from Kuje Prison in Abuja, on Friday, according to sources. Prison sources told Daily Trust that he had concluded his jail sentence which ran concurrently. Daily Trust gathered that the convict was ferried into Ibbi through river Benue, where he was received by thousands of people, including youths and women. A resident of Ibbi town, Musa Garba, said the town was at standstill for Wadume. Garba said the elderly and youths trooped out to receive Wadume by the river side and from there he went through the town before retiring to his house.  Kenyan doctors vow to continue strike despite president's appeal Ruto asked doctors on Sunday to go back to work and end the strike that has hampered health services in the country. Kenyan doctors say they will not be calling off the strike initiated nearly one month ago, despite calls from President William Ruto's appeal over the weekend. The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) downed tools on March 14 over the non-payment of salary arrears, delays by the government to deploy medical interns, and other grievances.  Oil marketers have suggested a price of N550 per litre of petrol to Dangote The President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Alhaji Abubakar Migandi Garima said: “We have been discussing with Dangote Refinery. The discussion, centering on pricing, margins and other issues, is still ongoing. “We have proposed that the lifting price should be N550 per litre in Lagos. The price of the product will differ from one part of Nigeria to another because of distance and cost of delivering petrol to different locations. “We are currently waiting on Dangote Refinery to conclude and communicate the price per litre, so we can plan to lift the product when it comes on stream. ‘’We expect that the price of the locally refined petrol would be cheaper than imported petrol, due mainly to local availability of the bulk of its crude oil and removal of transportation cost.”
