The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. At least eight members of a Ugandan music band have been arrested for allegedly insulting President Yoweri Museveni. The eight, who belong to the Crane Performers group, had complained about President Museveni's "long" speech at a wedding anniversary celebration on Saturday. Museveni was the chief guest when Uganda's former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi was celebrating 50 years of marriage. The president was making his speech at Serena Hotel in the capital Kampala on Saturday evening, when the eight band members reportedly complained that the address was taking too long, and that they were "tired" of listening to him, Uganda's Monitor newspaper reports.

A Federal Capital Territory High Court on Monday ordered the Deadly Plot actress to pay the amount to the cleric as damages. According to a certified true copy of the judgement, Apostle Suleman accused the actress of publishing derogatory comments against him on her Instagram page, which were in turn published by several blogs and newspapers.  Edo: Obaseki swears in Omobayo Marvellous Godwins as Shaibu's replacement Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has sworn-in Omobayo Marvellous Godwins as the new deputy governor of the state. Omobayo replaced Philip Shaibu, who was earlier impeached by the State House of Assembly on Monday morning. Shaibu was impeached by the House of Assembly after the adoption of the report of the Justice S. A. Omonua (rtd)-led impeachment panel. The panel was set up by the Chief Judge of Edo State to investigate allegations of misconduct and perjury against Shaibu. Eighteen out of the 20 lawmakers that attended the plenary on Monday, April 8, 2024 voted in favour of the impeachment while one voted against. Aderounmu’s death was confirmed by her brother, Adeola Aderounmu, in a cryptic post on Instagram captioned, “You are in a better place now, my sister,” with Aderounmu’s obituary photo. Also, a friend of the deceased cousin, Oluwabanke Funmi, in a post on Twitter, captioned, “Rest in peace Aderounmu Adejumoke.” “Waited hours for her cousin to delete her post and say it was a prank or a mistake but…,” she wrote.  EFCC Arraigns Binance, Executive for Alleged $34m Money Laundering   The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Monday, April 8, 2024 arraigned Binance Holdings Ltd and one of its executives, Tigran Gambaryan before Justice Emeka Nwite of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. They were arraigned on a 5-count charge bordering on alleged tax evasion, currency speculation and money laundering to the tune of $34,400,000 (Thirty-Four Million, Four Hundred Thousand United States Dollars).   At the last adjourned date, the second defendant, Tigran Gambaryan had claimed that he was not an agent, director, or a representative of the Binance Company in Nigeria and should not be served on behalf of the first defendant.  FCT COMMAND FCT POLICE ARRESTS NOTORIOUS ARMED ROBBERY KINGPIN, 4 OTHERS, RECOVERS EXHIBITS. The operatives of the FCT police command, on April 4, 2024, at about 2:00 PM, arrested one Chukwuemeka Oputa A.K.A. Pounds and Dollar 'm', 38 years old, of Umuaka, Njaba, Imo State, and the leader of an armed robbery gang responsible for series of armed robberies and other heinous crimes in FCT. His arrest is consequent upon the apprehension of one Moses Hassan 'm' of Idda, Kogi State, a cultist, and member of the armed robbery gang, on February 14, 2024. Investigation subsequently led police operatives to the arrest of three other gang members, namely: Praise Etta, 30 years 'old, of Etung, Cross River State; Rafael Dav A.K.A. Raffy, 28 years old, of Guma, Benue State; and Thomas Akange, 38 years 'old, of Markudi, Benue State.  ‘Kidnap Kingpin’ Wadume Receives Heroic Welcome In Taraba After Jail Term A large crowd welcomed “kidnap kingpin”, Hamisu Bala, better known as Wadume, to his hometown in Ibbi Taraba State, on Sunday. Wadume, who was arrested by men of the Intelligence Response Team of Inspector-General of Police, in 2019, was released from Kuje Prison in Abuja, on Friday, according to sources. Prison sources told Daily Trust that he had concluded his jail sentence which ran concurrently. Daily Trust gathered that the convict was ferried into Ibbi through river Benue, where he was received by thousands of people, including youths and women. A resident of Ibbi town, Musa Garba, said the town was at standstill for Wadume. Garba said the elderly and youths trooped out to receive Wadume by the river side and from there he went through the town before retiring to his house.  Kenyan doctors vow to continue strike despite president's appeal Ruto asked doctors on Sunday to go back to work and end the strike that has hampered health services in the country. Kenyan doctors say they will not be calling off the strike initiated nearly one month ago, despite calls from President William Ruto's appeal over the weekend. The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) downed tools on March 14 over the non-payment of salary arrears, delays by the government to deploy medical interns, and other grievances. Ruto appealed to doctors on Sunday to go back to work and end the strike that has hampered health services in the country. “I know we have a situation in Kenya facing our doctors and medical doctor interns, but I want to implore them that we as a nation need to agree that we must live within our means, fellow countrymen and women,” Mr. Ruto said.  Oil marketers have suggested a price of N550 per litre of petrol to Dangote The President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Alhaji Abubakar Migandi Garima said: “We have been discussing with Dangote Refinery. The discussion, centering on pricing, margins and other issues, is still ongoing. “We have proposed that the lifting price should be N550 per litre in Lagos. The price of the product will differ from one part of Nigeria to another because of distance and cost of delivering petrol to different locations. “We are currently waiting on Dangote Refinery to conclude and communicate the price per litre, so we can plan to lift the product when it comes on stream. ‘’We expect that the price of the locally refined petrol would be cheaper than imported petrol, due mainly to local availability of the bulk of its crude oil and removal of transportation cost.”

One of such strikes was carried out under Operation Hadarin Daji on 5 April 2024 at a terrorist enclave located Northwest of Yartsamiya Village in Danmusa Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina state.
