The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Nigeria’s former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, was laid to rest on Friday at his hometown, Oko in Anambra state after a week-long burial rites.Top government officials, close friends and family members gathered to pay their lasts respect to the 85-year-old elder statesmen who died in November 2017. Some of those present to witness the final moments were Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience. Other are former Vice President Namadi Sambo; the Anambra state Governor, Willie Obiano; Rochas Okorocha of Imo state, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state, Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state, among others. The former Vice President whose remains returned to Nigeria on Monday, died at a hospital in London United Kingdom on November 19, 2017, following a respiratory illness.More photos below.

       The Federal Government of Nigeria and some foreign countries, including the United Kingdom Government, have commenced the Automatic Exchange of Tax Information (AETI), particularly on overseas assets held by Nigerians. The Honourable Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, confirmed this on Friday in Abuja during the presentation of Progress Report on Tax Laws Reform by the Vice Chairman of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele.       The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has commenced investigations of ten (10) suspected oil thieves handed over to it on Thursday 1 February, 2018 by the Nigerian Navy. The ten suspects: Kolawole A Ezekiel; Olisa Basil Chukwutem; Friday Utibe; Emi Azubike; Oriyomi Olatunji; Ushiagwu Simon; Salihu Oricha Jimoh; Onche John, Onovuakpo John and Ubong Bredan, were handed over to the EFCC alongside a vessel: MT BREAKTHROU GH, with registration number IMO 9095723, by the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER, Naval Base, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, Rivers State for further investigation and prosecution.NNS Pathfinder’s Commander, Navy Captain Victor Choji, explained that, the suspects were arrested by the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER's patrol team deployed for anti-crude oil theft and illegal bunkering operations around Dawes Island, Port Harcourt.        The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Ibadan Zonal Office on Friday 2nd February, 2018 arraigned the duo of Ebenezer Adelowo and Walter Ekomaye before Justice M. L. Owolabi of the State High Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State. They were arraigned on different and separate charges bordering on conspiracy, stealing and obtaining money under false pretenses. While Ebenezer and Walter were arraigned together on a  three- count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing, Ebenezer answered to another separate five count charge alone for obtaining money under false pretenses respectively. They both pleaded not guilty to all the charges preferred against them.In view of their plea, prosecution counsel, Adeola Elumaro prayed the court for a trial date.         Ekiti State Governor, Chief Ayodele Fayose, has said the state government is taking its free health programme to homes and farmsteads because many sick people can't afford coming to towns to access quality health care services. He stated this in Ikere-Ekiti on Thursday during the flag off of the programme tagged "Ilera Ayo." In a statement by the governor's Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, he quoted the governor as saying that medical personnel involved in the programme would be going to homes of the aged and even the seriously sick and assess their situations and make necessary recommendations.       The outgoing Commanding Officer of 152 Battalion, 21 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Peter Elayo has donated some equipment to the Internally Displaced Persons in Banki, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. Presenting the equipment and items to the beneficiaries, the Commanding Officer noted that the donation was in line with the civil military activities aimed at ameliorating the plights of the Internall y Displaced Persons in Banki Camp. He however urged them to continue to be law abiding citizens and promptly report any suspicious movement to the appropriate authorities. The items donated includes a complete Barbing Saloon, a Tailoring Shed, 2 sets of football kits to the Banki IDPs football teams and a power generating set.         A new born baby was found dumped and abandoned in a waste bin in Awka. According to a Facebook post by Ezulike Chukwunonso Forwardever, the baby boy who was already dead was dumped in an ASWAMA trash can around De Lusso lodge in Ifite Awka, Anambra. He wrote: "Sum where (sic) in ifite,awka unizik after di lusso hostel..sombori probably a slay queen or a church gal just threw away her baby boy..and d boy is dead... R.I.P baby.. Ifite is an area in Awka dominated by students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University.One more photo below.

LAGOS CITY MARATHON 2018: LASTMA ANNOUNCES TRAFFIC DIVERSION.

       As part of efforts to ensure a hitch-free Lagos City Marathon scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 10, 2018, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced traffic diversion on the affected routes during the race. A statement issued on Wednesday by the Authority, said that the event will kick-off at 6am from the National Stadium, Surulere and terminate at Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Isl and, thus necessitating traffic diversion. The statement advised motorists and commercial vehicles to use alternative routes as listed below: • From Eko Bridge, motorists shall be diverted through Costain to connect Ebute-Metta, Orile, Nigerian Breweries and Bode Thomas through Apapa Road (now Moshood Abiola Way). • From Alaka Estate, motorists shall be diverted through Iponri or Iponri Estate. • Motorists from Masha inward journey to Stadium shall be diverted to Shitta Roundabout for onward movement through Falolu and Adeniran Ogunsanya Roads to thei

       Officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development on Thursday rescued a 14year-old girl, Unwana Emmanuel who had been serially subjected to physical abuse by her guardian known as Mummy Chidera, a resident Mushin area of the State. Briefing journalists on the operation, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Agboola Dabiri said the rescue team acted on a text message received by the Child Protection Unit of the Ministry, stating the victim's predicament and her ordeal of being battered by her guardian in the past 16 months. He explained that the team responded by visiting the residence of the victim at Mushin/Isolo Local Government, to verify the claim before she was immediately taken to a juvenile welfare centre, while Mummy Chidera has been charged to court.
