  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.  Navy Rescues 59 Persons From Drowning In Rivers, Loses Officer Operatives of the Forward Operations Base (FOB), Bonny in Rivers State have successfully rescued 59 individuals from a stranded dredging vessel at the mouth of the Opobo River.  According to a statement by the Nigerian Navy’s spokesman, Aiwuyor Aliu-Adams, the base received a distress call about a dredging vessel in danger of going down at the mouth of the river which is typically turbulent at this time of the year. The vessel MV AMBIKA 4 at the time of the incident was under contract with Sterling Global Oil Limited and was deployed at the Opobo field.  Court summons Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh, bodyguard for alleged assault The Chief Magistrate’s Court, Wuse Zone 6, has summoned popular Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh and her bodyguard, one Gbenga, for alleged assault and trespass. The suit, with case number CR/359/2024, was filed by the Chief Executive of Skyewise Group Limited, Elvis Abuyere, the owner of an Abuja-based car dealership company. In the court summons dated August 6, 2024, obtained by newsmen on Friday, Iyanna ordered the two defendants to appear before the court on August 24, 2024, to answer the charges against them. He stated that Dikeh had, in January, approached the car company for the purchase of a brand-new Changan Uni-K 2023 model from Mikano Motors. The complainant, who was reported to have a dealership relationship with Mikano, subsequently paid N85 million as full payment for the car to Mikano, with an agreement that Dikeh would pay the balance in installments within three months upon receiving the car.  NAF C-130 AIRCRAFT AIRLIFT AFMS/AFGMS JOS STUDENTS TO VARIOUS STATES ACROSS NIGERIA FOR HOLIDAYS In a move to ensure the safe arrival of its students back home for the holidays with their parents and families,  the Chief of the Air Staff,  Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar recently approved the airlift of students of Air Force Military School (AFMS) and Air Force Girls Military School AFGMS) both situated in Jos  Plateau State, to various states across the nation. The airlift, which was conducted using the C-130 heavy lift aircraft, commenced on 3 August 24. In total, 582 students of AFMS and AFGMS were safely airlifted from Jos to various parts of the country, including Abuja, Enugu, Ilorin, Kaduna, Kano, Markurdi, Port Harcourt, Lagos and Yola for the long vacation holidays.  Arrangements have also been emplaced to ensure their airlift back to Jos at the end of the holidays. Ethiopian_Airlines signs agreement with UAE company for new $6 billion airport design Ethiopian Airlines has signed an agreement with UAE company #Dar to carry out design work for a new mega airport to be constructed near #Bishoftu at a cost of 6 billion USD. According to local media reports, the company will finalize and submit the design of the airport in one year and will have consultancy role during the construction of the airport which will take five years to finish. The airport, to be constructed on a 35 square kilometer land, will serve more than 100 million passengers annually upon full completion, and will have a landing and take-off capacity of up to 4 planes at the same time. Bole International airport currently has the capacity of serving 25 million passengers annually.

 A CROSSFIT Games competitor has tragically died after taking part in a swimming event. The annual event, in Fort Worth, Texas,  seeks to crown “the fittest man and the fittest women on Earth”. Lazar Dukic, 28, died while competing in a CrossFit Games swimming event on Thursday.  Who was Lazar Dukic? Lazar Dukic sadly died while competing at Marine Creek Lake at the annual CrossFit Games. The 28-year-old was a talented water polo player and an athlete ambassador for FITAID, a sports drink brand. Gijs Spaans, the general manager of FITAID, worked with Dukic for three years and became good friends. When 39-year-old Octavian Cadar approached them at over 55 mph—more than double the 20 mph speed limit—the scared pair split up and ran.
