 Outcries Over State Recognised Vigilantes In North-West   The security outfits established by various state governments, especially in the North-West, are being accused of indiscriminate arrests and killing of suspects, as well as innocent people without recourse to judicial processes, findings by Daily Trust Saturday revealed. But those charged with the responsibility of managing the outfits have debunked the claims of extrajudicial killings, though some admitted what they described as “overzealousness” by some of the operatives. It was alleged that in some states, long lists of suspected bandits, their supporters or sympathisers have been arrested and ultimately killed, and such acts are allegedly being carried out without recourse to the police and other law enforcement agencies.       The South East Zonal Head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC , Adamu Hamisu Danmusa has stated that one of the major factors militating against efforts at eradicating corruption it in the country, is weak anti-corruption laws that tend to embolden the corrupt, especially politically exposed persons.   Danmusa made the submission on Thursday March 22, 2018 while delivering a paper entitled “ The Identif ied Economic and Financial Crimes in Governance” at a two-day workshop organized by the Enugu State Government in conjunction with the law firm of Theodore N. Azodo and Co., for newly elected Local Government Chairmen and their Treasurers in Enugu State at the Universal Hotel, Independence Layout, Enugu. “After all said and done, the reality is that laws establishing anti-graft agencies and other Acts guiding their operations are weak so much that it seem to favour the corrupt and powerful in our society more than the weak and vulnerable,” he said.Citing the Mo

EFCC ARRAIGNS POS USER IN LAGOS FOR N1.2BN FRAUD.{PHOTO}.

       The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, arraigned one Ifeanyi Nwaneri before Justice Olusola Ajibike Williams of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos on a five-count charge bordering on stealing to the tune of N1.2billion. The defendant, a customer with Access Bank Plc, was alleged to have fraudulently carried out several transactions on Point of Sales (POS) terminal issued to him by the bank. One of the counts reads: “That you, Ifeanyi Nwaneri, sometime between September 1 and 4, 2017, at Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonestly converted for the use of Sessy Global Ventures the sum of N25, 000, 000.00 (Twenty-five Million Naira only), property of Access Bank Plc.” Another count reads: "That you, Ifeanyi Nwaneri, sometime between August 15 and September 12, 2017, at Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonestly converted for the use of Omede Shedu

       As part of their resolve to work with the Lagos State Government and Visionscape Sanitation Solutions in addressing the current waste situation in the State, the Waste Collection Operators (WCOs), popularly known as PSP Operators, have embarked on voluntary waste evacuation across the Lagos metropolis. Speaking with journalists during the flag-off of the exercise in Agege, the Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti stated that the free evacuation of waste across the State was the outcome of resolution between the government and the Waste Collection Operators, adding that the move was meant to ensure that challenges being experienced presently in Waste Management across the State were addressed considerably within the shortest possible time.Durosinmi-Etti said that Lagos State Government remains committed to the removal of all problems militating against efficient waste management in the State.He stated that the free waste evacuation exercise took plac
