  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.       The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a gala performance in Hamilton support of   Sentebale   at the Victoria Palace Theatre. The evening raised awareness and funds for Sentebale's work with children and young people affected by HIV in southern Africa. The Duke and Duchess met representatives from Sentebale and Hamilton, including members of the cast and crew. At the conclusion of the show both The Duke of Sussex and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the show's book, music, and lyrics, addressed the audience. The Duke of Sussex founded Sentebale with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006 – the charity's programmes of education and care provide the tools and knowledge for young people affected by HIV in Lesotho and Botswana to live long, happy, healthy lives.More photos below.

      The Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Gombe Zonal office yesterday, August 30, 2018 raided two car dealers for non compliance with the provisions of Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and the regulations of Designated Non- Financial Institution (Regulatory Manual) 2013 that regulates the activities of DNFIs. The companies are HAMABB MOTORS NIG.  LTD along Atiku Abubakar road, Jimeta Yola, Adamawa state and Halal Synergy Limited along Galadima Aminu Way, Jimeta. They belong to the duo of Abba Galadima and Mansur Abdurahman respectively. They were arrested in tje course of the operation. Several efforts made by the SCUML officers from Gombe Zonal office by serving the companies with letters of notification for registration in June, 2016, as well as inspection and sensitation in July and November 2017 to register proved abortive.      The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office on Thursday 30 August, 2018 arraigned Adeshina Taoheed Aderemi, Adekoya Abosede and Ishola Abiodun Kazeem before Justice R. B. Akintola of the High Court of Oyo State, sitting in Ibadan, on seven-count charge bordering on forgery, uttering and obtaining money by false pretence.   The syndicate journey to the dock followed a petition to the Commission from their victim (nam e withheld) alleging that sometimes in 2018, he paid the sum of N695, 000.00 (Six Hundred and Ninety Five Thousand Naira) to the defendants through the first defendant’s (Mr. Adeshina Taoheed Aderemi) bank account domiciled in one of the new generation banks (name withheld) for them to secure a Canadian Visa for him. According to the petitioner, the defendants conspired and issued him a “Canadian Visa” affixed to his International Passport. Investigation by the EFCC confirmed that neither of the defendants were travels agents and that the
