The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. MAN BAGS ONE YEAR FOR N15,000 ATM TRANSFER FRAUD.{PHOTO}.

       Justice Bello Duwale of the Sokoto State High Court, Sokoto, has sentenced a fraudster, Bashar Umar Abdullahi (a.k.a Abdu Abdullahi and Bashir Abdullahi) to one year in jail without option of fine for stealing N15, 000.00 (Fifteen Thousand Naira) from his victim via a fraudulent transfer at an ATM gallery. The convict specialized on scamming unsuspecting Automated Teller Machine, (ATM) users who run into difficult transaction s at ATM galleries. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Sokoto Zonal Office arraigned the convict on September 23, 2019, on amended one-count charge, bordering on cheating and defrauding an unsuspecting victim to the tune of N15, 000.00 at ATM gallery.        The General Manager of Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI), Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu has said that the eye screening done at the Institute during the yearly training for professional drivers has helped to drastically reduce accidents on Lagos roads.        Four years ago, January 30, 2016, Danish aid worker Anja Ringgren Lovén was photographed giving water to a severely emaciated 2-year-old boy, who she rescued after he was branded a witch by his family and left to starve to death in Akwa Ibom. The child wandered the streets for months when Anja got a phone call and immediately led a rescue team including her husband David Emmanuel Umem, to bring the child to the Children's Education and Development Foundation (ACAEDF) aka "Land of Hope" named after the boy.       A female student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has been confirmed as the first Lassa Fever Patient in Anambra State. The student was diagnosed with the disease after being transferred from her school's medical center to Chukwukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH). Acting CMAC of COOUTH, Dr Ifeanyichukwu Ezebialu said the student's specimen which was sent out to Institute of Lassa Fever Research and Control at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) in Edo State, came back positive. He allayed fears of residents of the state by disclosing that necessary decontamination procedures were taken before the Emergency Response team which has been monitoring the health situation in the state moved the patient to the Virology Centre at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakiliki, Ebonyi State.

      The Enugu Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, January 30, 2020 arrested eleven suspected fraudsters. One of the fraudster, a female, was arrested at Airport View Estate, Thinkers Corner, Enugu. The arrest, which was the first by the zone in the new year, followed several intelligence report on the ostentatious lifestyles of the suspects. On the strength of the intelligence, operatives of the Commission, with duly signed search warrant, raided about four building within the same vicinity where they recovered several mobile phones, lap tops, computers, several MTN Sim packs, a Toyota Venza, Mercedes C350, two Lexus Jeeps, one GLK 350 Benz, two ES350 Lexus, a Mustang 455FA car and other incriminating items. Interim investigation revealed that the suspected female fraudster was discovered to have a software in her phone with an instruction and format used in duping gullible individuals.        The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Kano Zonal Office on January 30, 2020 arraigned one Shehu Muhammad Aliyu, a former staff of a new generation bank alongside his wife, Ramatu Abdullahi, before Justice Nasiru Saminu of the Kano State High Court for conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence. Aliyu was arraigned on a five-count charge, while Ramatu was arraigned on a one-count charge. The first defendant, Aliyu, an account officer in the bank, allegedly obtained loans through non-existent account holders, which he created by himself, purporting same to be staff of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, AKTH, Kano State, by presenting AKTH documents which turned out to have been forged. Investigation further revealed that his wife's account was used to deposit part of the loan sum. OPERATION REWIRED: EFCC OFFICERS GET FBI CERTIFICATES.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

       No fewer than 44 officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have been awarded with certificates of recognition by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, FBI, for their involvement in a joint operation tagged Operation Rewired. Speaking during the presentation of certificates to the EFCC officers at the Lagos office of the Commission on January 31, 2020, Heather Armstrong, Assistant Legal Attaché, FBI, s aid: “The FBI wishes to present the EFCC with certification of our appreciation from continued collaboration against cybercrimes. “The purpose of this event is to show enhanced collaboration between the EFCC and the FBI on cybersecurity.” Operation Rewired, which was a coordinated law enforcement effort by the U.S. Department of Justice and the EFCC, was conducted over a four-month period. While the operation lasted, 281 arrests were recorded in the US and overseas, including 167 in Nigeria.More photos below.
