  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Court Rejects Nigeria’s Request For Abba Kyari’s Extradition To US  Federal High Court in Abuja has declined the extradition application filed by the Federal Government for permission to extradite the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari to the United States (US).   Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a judgment on Monday held that the extradition application was an abuse of court process, on the grounds that Kyari was already standing a criminal trial before a Nigerian court.   The US authorities had applied to the Nigerian government for Kyari’s extradition in relation to his alleged link with suspected international fraudster, Ramon Abbas (hushpuppi).   The United States Attorney’s Office for Central District of California, Los Angeles, confirmed last week, that hushpuppi will be sentenced on September 21, 2022.

POLICE RESCUE SUSPECTED CHILD TRAFFICKER FROM MOB Police operatives attached to Surulere Division have rescued one Ayomide Fawehinmi ‘m’ aged 22 from a mob for allegedly stealing a child at the Empire area of Surulere.  The suspect was rescued and thereafter arrested after a distress call was received from members of the community about the mob action.  Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect lured a 15-year-old boy from his mother’s shop and was taking him to an unknown destination before he was accosted by a neighbour who raised the alarm. The suspect had already dispossessed the boy of an Itel android phone to cut off communication with his mother.  While the boy has been rescued unhurt and the phone recovered, investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s culpability. RRS recovers 13 protective rails from fleeing vandals. Early this morning, specifically, 12:10 a.m. on Carter Bridge, Ijora – Olopa, RRS officers on routine patrol noticed a mini – bus, popularly called Korope, registration number, LSD 440 XY with four occupants driving in a suspicious manner. The officers chased the ‘korope’ to Oto, Ijora area, where they caught up with the mini bus. The occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled.  On searching the vehicle, 13 bars of bridge protective railings were recovered.  The vehicle has been towed to the RRS HQ, for further investigations. Ogun begins compensation payment for properties demolished by Amosun   Ogun State government is to begin paying compensation to owners of properties demolished by the administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun to pave way for the expansion of some road projects across the state. Already, Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved that the compensation payment should commence to alleviate the sufferings of those affected. Amosun embarked on massive demolition of properties across the state in his desire to expand some roads to as much as 8-lanes without paying compensation to affected owners. In addition, it was double jeopardy as many of the roads were abandoned midway through the construction process, while others did not take off at all. Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, who spoke on the issue at the weekend, said the governor has approved the compensation payment, which will be in phases. Lagos Court Jails Lawyer Two Years for N4 million Fraud.    Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State, has convicted and sentenced a legal practitioner, Taiwo Oreagba, to two years imprisonment for obtaining the sum of N4,000, 000 (Four Million Naira) from a client to secure the release of a suspect from the custody of the EFCC. She was jailed on Thursday, August 25, 2022 after standing trial on two-count charges bordering on corrupt demand and obtaining money under false pretences.

FLOOD HITS MAKURDI RESIDENTS, RENDERS HUNDREDS HOMELESS Floods have destroyed many properties and rendered scores of residents homeless in Makurdi, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. NAN reports that flood has over the last decade become a yearly routine, destroying property worth millions of Naira and causing losses of lives in some cases. A correspondent of the agency who went around the state capital reports that the disaster affected major parts of Achussah, Agber Village, Ayado Villa, and Judges Quarters, among others. The areas are among the worst hit in the 2017 floods that displaced more than 120,000 persons in the Benue capital, Makurdi. At Agber Village, Mr James Igbawua told NAN that the situation was beyond their control, adding that they reported the matter to all relevant authorities over the years but no positive response. GROOM AND FIVE OTHERS FOUND DEAD IN A ROOM IN ENUGU STATE.(PHOTO).

 A groom, Obinna Dike, and five others including relatives and friends were found d£ad in Akutara Village, Adani community, Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu state. Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, August 28, said the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ahmed Ammani has ordered full-scale investigation into the incident. According to the PPRO, the victims attended Obinna's traditional wedding ceremony in Obollor-Eke in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State on Friday, August 26, and continued with the celebration when they returned to Adani.
