 Court adjourns case seeking to sack 27 pro-Wike lawmakers A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has adjourned till June 3, 2024 the hearing for a suit filed by members of the Rivers State Civil Society Organisation seeking to sack 27 lawmakers of the State House of Assembly. When the parties arrived at the Court for hearing on the matter on Friday, the Clerk of the court informed them that the Judge, Justice Stephen Daylop Pam was indisposed and a new date was picked. The CSO’s had approached the court to seek interpretation of Section 109 of the 1999 Constitution and whether the lawmakers, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress still have legal rights to remain as lawmakers of their constituencies. The CSO’s led by the Rivers State Chairman, Enefaa Georgewill also want the court to restrain Governor Siminalayi Fubara from representing the 2024 budget to the lawmakers who defected.       The Ogun state Government has commiserated with the family of the Late Sikiru Adebayo Osinowo. Sen. Osinowo represented Lagos East on the National Assembly but passed on in the early hours of Monday 15th June. The late Senator who was and indigene of Ogun State and a former lagos state assembly member, died of complications of COVID-19. On Wednesday, the Deputy Governor, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele led the state delegation to the Ijebu-ode residence of the late federal lawmakers on behalf of Gov. Dapo Abiodun, noted that the late senator was someone who was very dear to the hearts of everyone particularly Ogun State where he hailed from. She described the late senator as a person larger than life, who duly impacted the lives of everyone he came across in no small measure to which countless testimonies abound. A MAN ARRESTED IN OGUN FOR STEALING HIS CUSTOMER'S PANT.{PHOTO}.

      Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 22-year-old man, Dele Ope, for allegedly stealing his customer’s pant. The woman (name withheld) had reported Ope, a vulcanizer to the Police at Warewa Division, over her missing item. According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the woman had invited the suspect to fix one of her car tyres which got deflated. The woman was said to have discovered that her pant spread on a line within her compound, had gone missing. She was reported to have gone after the artisan who was nowhere to be found, as at the time she got to her shop. When the matter was reported at the Warewa Division, the DPO, Folake Afeniforo, detailed detectives to arrest the suspect, while a search was conducted in his house and the pant was found. The suspect upon interrogation confessed to the crime, saying he had the intention of taking the pant to a herbalist for money ritual.

      A primary school teacher in Anambra State, Mrs. Roseline Uche Egbuha, was on Friday, June 19, arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) after N550 million said to have been sent by her son was discovered in her Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) account. Also arrest ed by the commission were three staff of the bank: the compliance officer of GTB, Beckley Ojo; an Operations Manager, Chisomaga Daly-Okoro, a staff of the legal department, Sarah Ugamah and a lawyer to GTB in Anambra State, Nsikak Udoh. They were said to have helped the teacher to keep the money for her. According to a statement by the ICPC in its official twitter handle, Mrs. Egbuha, a teacher with Ozala Primary School, Abagana, Anambra State, was earlier arrested in 2019 by ICPC and granted bail.        The Lagos State Government has announced plans to establish fruit orchards in 20 Secondary Schools to fast-track a development policy of the State, especially building the culture of tree planting and re-greening the environment among students and youths in Lagos. The State's Acting Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, who disclosed this over the weekend, noted that the planting of fruit trees in selected secondary schools is also to encourage students to become healthy, productive and conscious of their immediate environment. LAGOS FIRE SERVICE AVERTS ESCALATION OF MULTIPLE FIRE INCIDENT ON KARA BRIDGE.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

     The Lagos State Fire Service successfully averted an escalation of a fire incident involving three tankers and one trailer on Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Sunday. Speaking on the incident, the Acting Head, Lagos State Fire Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, stated that the quick and timely response by the Agency ensured that the fire disaster was effectively cont ained before it escalated. According to her, "Lagos Firemen responded to a fire call at about 0046hrs on Sunday, 21st June, 2020 at Kara Bridge and quickly reached the location where some vehicles were already engulfed by fire. Nevertheless, our firefighters were able to contain the situation from escalating before it was finally extinguished a few hours later". The defendant is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on a three-count charge, bordering on breach of trust and issuance of dud cheque to the tune of N27 mi llion (Twenty-seven Million Naira), issued in seven post-dated cheques of Zenith Bank Plc.
