 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week. AFRICAN CULTURE WAS IN FULL DISPLAY,AS VICSUM SCHOOL IKEJA,CELEBRATED THEIR CULTURAL DAY TODAY.

                                African culture was in full display today as Vicsum Nursery,Primary and Secondary school in Omole phase 2 Ikeja Lagos,celebrated their cultural day.They did not limit there celebration to just Nigerian rich cultures but they also show-cased the rich cultures of Ghana,Moroco,Tanzarnia,Zimbabwe etc.The food of each nation was also in full display plus their dance moves.I really enjoyed myself today and the lectures about each nation that was represented.Is good for children to remember their African roots and also learn about all other cultures.More photos below.                                                                                         ...

POLICE IN SOUTH AFRICA,FIRED STUN GRENADES AT PROTESTING STUDENTS TODAY.

                 Today wednesday,South African police fired stun grenades and arrested one student in clashes at the Johannesburg's University of the Witwatersrand as the protests enters it's third week.Studies and examinations have been disrupted at several universities and many remained close even after President Jaco Zuma on friday gave in to the protesting student's demands not to increase university fees next year.Protests against tuition increases started at the university,known as Wits,on October 13 2015 and it spread to other campuses nationwide.Some students at Wits are demanding free higher education,as well improved conditions for contracted university workers.More photos below.                                                                     

FUEL SCARCITY,HITS AWKA ANAMBRA STATE.

                      According to sources,there is now fuel scarcity in Awka Anambra state and they are now selling fuel as high as N110 and N115 .Some pressmen who monitored the situation today wednesday reports that most filling stations had no fuel sign placed at their gates while a few that had the product had long queues of vehicles.Mr Benjamin Abimaje,Manager at Femas Services Station Awka said ''There was no product because of the sudden outrageous increase in loading cost.I have applied for products for some days noe but the increase in price and scarcity at the depot in Lagos had made it impossible for them to get loaded.We do not have fuel.The cost is high at the depot and when you add other charges,it may not land at less that N98.It is also biting us because we are not selling,no profit,yet we are incurring loss,we hope it normalises soon''.Chief Ikechukwu Nwankwo,Chairman of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association ...

338 PEOPLE RESCUED FROM SAMBISA FOREST YESTERDAY,BY THE NIGERIAN ARMY.

               According to the Nigerian Army,who said today wednesday that they rescued 338 people from the hands of Boko Haram.The people rescued were mainly women and children,held in Sambisa forest in Borno state.They were rescued yesterday tuesday and the Nigerian army said in a statement that ''192 of the survivors were children and 138 were women.The raid targeted suspected Boko Haram terrorist camps at Bulajilin and Manawashe villages on the edge of the Sambisa forest.The troops killed 30 suspected jihadists and seized a cache of arms and ammunition''.The air force said in a statement yesterday tuesday that it had launched strikes on the group's vehicle and fuel depots in a renewed drive to further degrade it assets.Air-force chief Sadique Abubakar was quoted as saying the strikes were helping pave the way for the final onslaught by Nigerian ground forces.One more photo below.                   ...
