  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.      The PCRRU has initiated investigation following a viral social media post where a citizen named Dapo (other name unknown) alleged that he was arrested by some police officers and taken to Maroko Police Station, Lagos State where N40,000.00 was allegedly extorted from him via mobile banking platform before he was released. The complaint was registered at about 5:12p m of 23rd November, 2017 and tracking number  # PCRRU600772  was issued. A preliminary PCRRU investigation reveals that an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) name withheld attached to Maroko Police Division in Lagos State while on Anti-crime patrol duty with two others intercepted the author of the viral post and took him to Maroko Police Station. The ASP is the uniform man in the picture but the bank account number and name in the viral post is not that of the said ASP.        Sequel to recent security challenges posed by Boko Haram terrorists in cattle rustling to raise funds for their criminal activities, hunters from Gur village in Biu Local Government Area (LGA), Borno State in conjunction with hunters from Damaturu at about 2:48pm on Thursday 23rd November 2017, intercepted suspected Boko Haram terrorists cattle rustlers east of Burashika village of Biu LGA. During th e encounter that lasted several hours, the hunters killed 1 Boko Haram terrorist, recovered an AK-47 rifle mounted with magazine of 2 rounds and 48 cows, 58 goats, 36 sheeps and 12 donkeys. EASE OF DOING BUSINESS: LAGOS LANDS BUREAU HARMONIES FEES

        The Lagos State Lands Bureau, through the Directorate of Land Services, has harmonized its demand notice/assessment letter to encompass all fees payable for Governor's Consent in the State. A statement released by the Special Adviser on Urban Development, Mrs. Yetunde Onabule said the harmonization is part of the ongoing efforts to improve the Ease of Doing Business relating to land matters in Lagos. According to the release, the demand notice now outlines the harmonized fees to include Consent fee, Capital Gain Tax, Stamp Duty, Registration Fee, Neighborhood Improvement Charge, Charting Fee as well as Endorsement and Form 1c charges.        The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to comments attributed to the Chairman of the Senate Ad Hoc Committee investigating the controversial reinstatement of Abdulrasheed Miana, Senator Emmanuel Paulker, alleging that officials of the Commission shared 222 properties which Maina’s Panel seized from pension fund thieves. This sweeping allegation, coming from a Sena te Committee is disturbing more so as no attempt was made to verify the information from the Commission. The EFCC was never invited by the Committee and given the opportunity to educate it on the status of assets seized from suspected pension thieves; yet the Committee was comfortable to scandalize the EFCC with the public disclosure of unverified claims by unknown interests.
