  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. The Nigeria Immigration Service on Tuesday in Abuja reacted to a global ranking that placed the Nigerian passport 98th out of 199 countries; below other African states such as Malawi, Niger, Chad, Zimbabwe, Uganda and The Gambia. It said although it welcomed the ranking, it is more concerned with Nigerian passport’s compliance with the global standards of the International Civil Aviation Organisation. According to details obtained from Henley & Partners, a London-based global citizenship and residence advisory firm, the passport index published quarterly is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association, which maintains the world’s largest database of travel information.

  The European Union has imposed sanctions on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich in new measures targeting Russia. The EU included the Russian oligarch in its updated list of individuals facing assets freeze and travel bans due to his close links to Vladimir Putin. Chelsea originally released a statement arguing their game should be behind closed doors because they only sold 650 tickets out of their initial away allocation of 4,620 for the game at the Riverside, meaning they were at a sporting disadvantage and that a behind-closed-doors game would be "the fairest way of proceeding in the current circumstances". Sports Minister Nigel Huddlestone gave evidence to the Department of Media, Culture and Sport select committee and said the government may amend its licence to allow Chelsea to sell tickets, so long as Abramovich does not profit from the move. Vigilante And Cultists Clash At Miracle Junction, Ifite-Awka, Anambra State People living around Miracle junction, Ifite-Awka, Anambra state, today, Tuesday, 15th March, 2022, were subjected to what may be described as ‘daylight action movie’, as suspected cultists engaged security operatives in a shootout.  According to eye witnesses, the cultists were later caught and one was burnt alive by the security operatives. NIGERIAN ARMY OPERATIONAL SUCCESSES APPLAUDED GLOBALLY - COAS The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya has averred that the operational successes recorded by troops of the Nigerian Army (NA) in the North East and across other theatres of operations have received global recognition, particularly considering the drop in the global index. The COAS made the assertion today Tuesday 15 March 2022 while declaring open, the Chief of Army Staff First Quarter Conference 2022 at the Army Headquarters Command Officers' Mess 1, Asokoro Abuja. Gen Yahaya saluted the untiring efforts, doggedness and commitment displayed by troops in the face of adversary, which he maintained, translated into tremendous gains against insurgency, banditry and secessionists agitation in the north east, north west, north central and south east respectively. The COAS attributed the recent operational successes to increased synergy between the NA and sister services, as well as other security agencies.

The Director Forestry and Wildlife,  Ministry of Environment, Borno, Peter Ayuba, has confirmed the killing of a lion by hunters in Konduga Local Government Area. Mr Ayuba, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria on the incident on Tuesday in Maiduguri, said the lion might have strayed from Waza Game Reserve in neighbouring Cameroon Republic. “We have similar incidents of Elephants from the game reserve entering villages in Kala-Balge Local Government Area. “There is also an incident of some hyenas killing a man in the bush in Kaga LGA. “Absence of human activities in some rural communities for several years has transformed many farmlands to thick forest,” Ayuba said He explained that the several years of absence of human beings made the animals in reserves to start wondering into the villages. Three Yahoo Boys Convicted in Oyo Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 convicted and sentenced the trio of Oyeleke Mubarak Oladipupo, Taiwo Opeyemi Oluwaseyi and Babatunde Peter Kolade for their fraudulent cyber activities. The Ibadan Zonal Command of the EFCC arraigned the convicts on separate charges and they pleaded “guilty” to the charges when read to them. Justice Agomoh thereafter, convicted and sentenced Oladipupo to seven months imprisonment, Taiwo to four months and Babatunde to three months jail term. More photos below.

  Fire Incident Reported at EFCC Exhibit Dump in Port Harcourt There was a fire incident at the exhibit dump of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, located at Iriebi, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Monday, March 14, 2022. The incident which occurred in the early hours of the day, affected most of the trucks parked in the facility before the fire was put out by men of the Federal Fire Service Secretary to the Commission, Dr. George Ekpungu, who was at the scene of the incident on Tuesday March 15, assured that investigation had commenced to determine the cause of the inferno, while measures will be put in place to safeguard all exhibit dumps across the country. The Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court in Pretoria, South Africa, on Monday, March 14, remanded two Nigerian men in custody after they were arrested for allegedly dealing in narcotics. The accused, Amandi Henry Ogbuonye,39, and Amobi Christian Eze, 30, were arrested after law enforcement agencies were alerted to suspected illegal drug dealings at a residential dwelling in the Vereeniging area. A search and seize warrant was issued for the police operation, Gauteng spokesperson for the Hawks, Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu, said in a statement. "On Friday 11 March 2022, the investigation team kept surveillance at a positively identified premises and pounced on the accused allegedly packaging drugs in small plastic packets for distribution,” said Mulamu. The accused fled the scene on foot, abandoning some of the suspected drugs on the premises. Only Ungrateful People From South East Will Not Say 'Thank You Buhari' - Uzodinma  Uzodimma said only the Buhari-led administration fulfilled the promise of completing the second Niger bridge. Speaking on Monday in an interview with Channels, the Imo governor said successive governments before Buhari’s administration paid lip service to the completion of the bridge. “Today, whether you like it or not, the party to beat is APC. I come from the south-east. Since after the civil war, the only gateway out of the south-east — the entire old eastern Nigeria — was that old river Niger bridge,” he said. “It would be a thing of ingratitude for anybody to come from that region to talk about President Buhari neglecting the old eastern bloc.”

Prof. Nwamuo Elected Chairman, NIPR, Anambra State Chapter The Head, Department of Mass Communication, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Anambra state, Prof Angela Nwamuo, was today, Tuesday, 15th March, 2022, elected as the new Chairman of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Anambra State Chapter.  Prof. Nwamuo’s election and that of the other executive members of the association was the highlight of the 2022 annual general meeting of the association. Dr. Tony Onyima, former Anambra state Commissioner for Information was a guest speaker at the event and spoke on the topic, ‘Purpose, Profit In Contemporary Public Relations Practice’. Anambra State House of Assembly Holds Valedictory Session For Governor Obiano Lawmakers in Anambra State House of Assembly today, Tuesday, 15th March, 2022, held a Valedictory Session in honour of the Fifth Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, amidst outpour of emotions. The special session was held at the State House of Assembly Complex in Awka. This is coming less than two days to the end of the life span of the present administration, where lawmakers of the Seventh Assembly led by the Speaker, Right Honourable Uchenna Okafor, eulogised the Governor for his transformational leadership in all sectors of the state economy. Speaker Okafor said that the honour was considered  neccessary in view of the cordial relationship that exists between the legislature and other arms of the government, which he explained is evident in many ways especially in the massive develooment of the state as well as the peaceful atmosphere, such that there was no rift between the two arms of government
