Lawyer Remanded in Correctional Facility for Alleged N10m Scam in Uyo The Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 arraigned one Barrister Utibe Hanson Inem before Justice Bassey Nkanang of the State High Court, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on a two-count charge bordering on issuance of dud cheque and stealing by fraudulent conversion to the tune of N10, 000.00 (Ten Million Naira). Inem sometime in April 2021 in Uyo, fraudulently converted to his use, the sum of Ten Million Naira (N10, 000,000.00) belonging to one Uduak Akpan Jacob, being the said Uduak Akpan Jacob’s share, from proceeds from the sale of 3 bedroom bungalow located at Osongama Estate. The offence is contrary to Section 392 (1) and punishable under Section 399 of the Criminal Code CAP 38 Vol. II Laws of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria 2000.

64 DEATHS AS BENUE GOVT SPENDS N680M ON SNAKEBITE TREATMENT 31st January, 2023      The Benue state government has expended the sum of N680 million on the treatment of snake victims even as 64 people died in the course of treatment. Governor Samuel Ortom, who made the disclosure at the inauguration of the ultra Modern Laboratory facility at the Bishop Murray Medical Centre, Makurdi, on Monday, said he started free treatment of snake victims in year 2000 when he was not a Governor. According to him, he visited a friend sometimes at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, when a victim was brought for four days and was about to be taken back home to wait for his death, which he intervened to save a life. “The Bishop Murray medical centre was treating snake victims and I was paying the fee in piecemeal and owing N70 million arrears,” he stated. No justification for fuel scarcity, price hike — PENGASSAN 31 January 2023  The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has said that there is no justification to the current fuel scarcity and the hike in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS. It called on the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), to revoke licenses of any marketers found to be selling petrol above the approved price. A statement signed by PENGASSAN’s President, Comrade Lumumba Okugbawa, and General Secretary, Comrade Festus Osifo, on Monday in Abuja, insisted there was no justification for the current petrol scarcity hike in price as being witnessed nationwide. While noting that there was enough petrol to last Nigerians for the next 30 days and more, the union accused some marketers of creating artificial scarcity of petrol, with the aim of having the product sell at a higher price. Provision of personal e-mail now compulsory for UTME registration, says JAMB 31 January 2023  The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has announced that personal email is now compulsory for the registration of University and Tertiary Matriculation Examinations. It said that as from January 31, 2023, no candidate would be registered without the provision of an email address.
