 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. Africa’s largest province A 5.0-magnitude earthquake on Sunday struck near Johannesburg, shaking buildings across South Africa’s most populous province, the United States Geological Survey reported. The tremor struck at 2:38 am (0038 GMT) around 10 kilometres (six miles) below the surface, the USGS said. Buildings shook across the province of Gauteng, where Johannesburg, the country’s largest city and commercial hub, is located. Residents across the province felt the tremor and some posted pictures on social media showing minor structural damages to walls. In August 2014, a 5.3 magnitude earthquake hit a gold mining town near Johannesburg. The last major quake to hit South Africa was a 6.3-magnitude tremor that struck the Western Cape province in 1969.

Russia detains US citizen on drug trafficking charges An American citizen identified as Michael Travis Leake has been arrested and detained by Russian authorities on drug trafficking charges. According to NBC, Leake, a paratrooper and musician was arrested in Moscow on Saturday. The US citizen in question has been charged with “illegal production, sale or shipment of narcotic drugs on a large scale,” the state-owned Radio Sputnik reported. The Moscow courts later confirmed the arrest. Female Airforce Officer ‘Commits’ Suicide  June 11, 2023 A female officer of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) identified as George, has been reportedly found dead in her apartment in Lagos. Ayodele Famuyiwa, NAF director of public relations and information, confirmed the incident on Sunday according to TheCable. However, Famuyiwa said he has “no full details to it”. Military sources told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, that George, until her death, was a master warrant officer serving at 651 base services group in Lagos. Adamawa: Mob Kills 2 Women over Alleged Witchcraft June 11, 2023 A mob has reportedly killed two women in Adamawa State over alleged witchcraft. According to the report, a police inspector and some vigilante group members were said to have hands in the killing. Bandits Kill 25, Abduct Dozens In Niger  Bandits have killed twenty five farmers and abducted scores of people including women and girls from various communities in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State. Davido: I’ve Been Struggling With My Voice  Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, fondly known as Davido, says he has been struggling with his voice. In a chat with TheNative, a Nigerian-based music magazine, the superstar revealed occasions when he lost his voice before stage performances. The singer has always been criticized for his hazy and husky voice, but he disclosed that he had to learn to deal with the problem and ensure that it doesn’t affect his music.

NDLEA uncovers Meth Lab in Lagos residential community, recovers packs of illicit drug - Intercepts UK-bound skunk in native black soap; Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have uncovered a secret laboratory producing deadly illicit substance, Methamphetamine, in a residential community located in Ikeja Lagos state where already packaged sachets of the drug and various precursor chemicals used in the production were recovered. The clandestine laboratory located at No. 4 Bode Oluwo Street, Mende, Maryland Ikeja was stormed by anti-narcotics officers of the Agency on Tuesday 6th June after credible intelligence and surveillance confirmed the illicit substance was being produced in the duplex building. At the end of the search, one kilogram of already produced and packaged methamphetamine, quantities of precursor chemicals and other items used for the production of the deadly drug were recovered from the house while efforts are on to apprehend the fleeing owner
