  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.   The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Gombe Zonal office today secured the conviction of Yusuf Ibrahim Gokaru, a former Bauchi State Accountant General, before Justice Muazu Abubakar of the Bauchi State High Court on charges bordering on obtaining money by false pretence, concealment of the source and origin of the money. His troubles began in August 2019 when the Bauchi State Government, in a petition to the Commission, alleged that the convict abused his office as Accountant General and obtained the sum of One Hundred and Eight Million, Three Hundred and Sixty Three Thousand, Two Hundred Naira Only. (N108, 363, 200) for personal used. The money was diverted from the World Bank assistance to Bauchi State Government under the State Education Programme Investment Project, SEPIP. The defendant transferred the money from Bauchi State Consolidated Naira Account domiciled at Polaris Bank to a Unity Bank account. The offence is contrary to Section 1 (1) (a) of the Advance F

  Earlier today, while addressing members of Edo State Transition Committee and other stakeholders, I reiterated the need for political leaders at different levels to honour the social contract with the people. The key message today is that there is a paradigm shift in Nigeria and Nigeria’s politics, as it was clearly demonstrated on September 19, 2020 in Edo State. Politics is changing in Nigeria as the electorate have begun to vote rightly using the Edo election. We should all know that the 2023 election will not be business as usual. We went through the 192 wards in the State and made promises to the people and they believed us; came out to vote for us, and we won.   Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Yerima Peter Tarfa, has advised civil servants to always adopt a roadmap to guide them in effectively discharging their duties and achieving organisational goals. He gave the charge as he flagged off a one-day induction training for new officers in the Skills Development and Certification Department of the Ministry, in Abuja. The roadmap, he said, include equipping themselves for their responsibilities through acquiring the necessary skills and competences, as well as applying diligence, focus, creativity, innovation to their tasks, among others. The Permanent Secretary further advised civil servants to always have set goals and work towards achieving them, and not idle their time away, in order to achieve career objectives and organisational mandate.
