The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.                  Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Friday sought a no objection letter from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) for the State Government's Embedded Power Programme. Governor Ambode, who led some members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers and other critical stakeholders to a meeting at the NERC’s headquarters in Abuja, said the embedded power project was designed as his administration’s flagship programme for direct intervention in the power value chain towards achieving a 24-hour power for Lagos. He said the proposed power programme would generate up to 3,000MW of power through accelerated deployment of various power plants in strategic locations across the State by private sector power providers within three to six years. GAS EXPLOSION KILLS FOUR, INJURES SEVERAL OTHERS IN OBOSI ON WEDNESDAY.{PHOTO}.

              At least, four persons were feared killed on Wednesday (02 August 2017), at Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State when a cooking gas exploded. Several persons sustained injuries in the incident. It was gathered the incident which happened at Trinity Gas Limited Station, at Obosi, occurred during refilling of gas to a customer’s cylinder. The blast killed the gas station attendant and three others instantly, injuring scores at the scene. An eyewitness, Nnaemeka Chidum, told newsmen the explosion scattered the bodies of the victims at the gas station to the extent that parts of their bodies could not be identified. His words, “I was at the other side of the road when I heard a sound like bomb and fire from the gas station. I wanted to run when I heard the sound but fell down.“After some time I stood up and saw people running towards the station. When I got there I saw many human parts scattered all over the place, many people were injured

            Over 500 students under the aegis of Joint Campus Committee (JCC) in Anambra, two days ago blocked both lanes of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway protesting alleged extortion, rape of female students and intimidation by officials and agents of the state government. The placard carrying students who started their protest from Amawbia axis of the expressway initially blocked one of the lanes, making movement difficult for those coming from Onitsha area and later proceeded to shut down the two lanes on getting to the popular Aroma Junction. For about two hours, vehicular movement was at a standstill as the students sat down on the highway chanting solidarity songs, demanding that Governor Willie Obiano should address them or they would remain on the road.                                                         It's a sad moment for the family and friends of a student of Nnamdi Azikwe University (UNIZIK) identified as Sochima Sandra Iloka aged 23, who gave up the ghost following an illness (Malaria), according to her friends on Facebook. The young lady who reportedly just started her final year in school before her demise and will be laid to rest in her hometown Umueziani village, Akwaeze i n Anaocha L.G.A of Anambra state on Friday, August 4th today.May her soul rest in peace.More photos below.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS PETITION TRIBUNAL TO COMMENCE SITTING FROM MONDAY.

                  The Lagos State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal will commence the legal process that enables aggrieved parties and individuals who participated in the Saturday, 22nd July 2017 local government elections seek redress in accordance with the Electoral Law. A statement released by the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Lagos, Mrs. A. O. Soladoye said the Lagos Division Panel of the Election Petition Tr ibunal, under the Chairmanship of Hon. Justice A.Olateru-Olagbegi (rtd.) will sit at No. 1 Igbosere Road, Lagos adding that the Registry of the tribunal is located within the same premises. It stated further that the Ikeja Division of the Election Petition Tribunal, chaired by Mrs. Folasade Adetiba will sit at the Roseline Omotosho Courthouse,High/Magistrate Court, Ikeja with the Registry of the tribunal also situated at the same venue. According to the statement, the Registry of both Tribunals will open to the public from Monday, 7th August 2017 at 8 a.

                 A call has been made to Lagos State Government by women under the aegis of Alliance Against Domestic Violence & Abuse (AADVA) demanding death penalty for perpetrators of rape in the State. A Coordinator of the organization, Mrs. Laila St. Matthew – Daniel who made the call during a peaceful protest to Lagos House Ikeja said the heinous crime had become an epidemic of frightening proportion that should be nipped in the bud. She disclosed that AADVA as an umbrella comprising different civil society organizations, NGOs and concerned individuals visited the State House to express their concern, anger and outrage on the frequency of the occurrence of sexual abuse of children (including babies) in Nigeria, particularly Lagos.                 The Lagos State Government on Friday arraigned the owner of Vintage Hotel in Owode Onirin area of Ikorodu, Chief Patrick Okeze before a Yaba Magistrate Court for allegedly aiding and promoting same sex sexual activities and gay club in his hotel. Okeze was arraigned alongside two of his workers, Sunday Isang and Bright Oba for allegedly encouraging the illegal act to be perpetrated by young men and minors in the hotel contrary to the provisions of Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act of 2014. The State Government had on Thursday arraigned 28 adults and 12 minors before Yaba and Ebute-Metta Magistrate Courts respectively for engaging in homosexuality using the said hotel.                The EFCC has arrested one Ma Yongbin, 46, a Chinese national, at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport. Yongbin was arrested while trying to board Egypt Air to China where he was found to have in his possession undisclosed sum of N305,000 (Three Hundred and Five Thousand Naira Only) all in N5 denomination. Investigation is still ongoing. Similarly, Yasir Salihu Abdullahi was arrested at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport with 849 ATM cards. He was on board Egypt Air en-route Dubai.
