Reports from across the country yesterday showed that many filling stations had no fuel to sell. Some sold over and above the threshold of N650 per litre while motorists and other buyers besieged the few ones that sold within the range of N600 per litre. Nobel Prize in literature 2023 awarded to Norwegian author Jon Fosse. Norwegian author Jon Fosse, 64, is the winner of the 2023 Nobel Prize in literature for his “innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable”.  The announcement was made on Thursday, October 5, 2023.  Anders Olsson, chairman of the Nobel committee for literature said: “His huge oeuvre, spanning a variety of genres, comprises around 40 plays and a wealth of novels, poetry collections, essays, children’s books and translations.  “Fosse blends a rootedness in the language and nature of his Norwegian background with artistic techniques in the wake of modernism.”  Born in 1959 in Haugesund on the west coast of Norway, Fosse grew up in Strandebarm. At the age of seven, he nearly died in an accident, which he said was “the most important experience” of his childhood and one that “created” him as an artist.  He aspired to be a rock guitarist before turning his ambitions to writing.  His debut novel, Raudt, svart

GOV. SOLUDO GIVES N1.5 BILLION EDUCATION GRANT TO MISSION SCHOOLS IN ANAMBRA STATE. (PHOTOS).

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo has handed the sum of One Billion, Five Hundred and Twenty Four Million Naira as Grant to Mission Public Schools in the State  The Governor after his interactive meeting with teachers to mark 2023 World Teachers Day  accordingly gave the sum of N918,000,000 to Catholic Mission's public schools with 459 schools throughout the State. He equally handed over the sum of N550,000,000 to Anglican Mission Public Schools with 275 schools in the State. Another N16,000,000 and N40,000,000 were handed over to Salvation Army Mission Public Schools with 8 schools and Pentecostal Mission Public schools with 20 schools in the State respectively. His aim for this for this grant to the Mission's Public Schools is to ensure that quality of education, employment of qualified teachers and improvement of teacher's welfare will be achieved both at government public school and as well mission's public schools in the state. FG suspends Enugu psychiatric hospital principal over misconduct The Federal Ministry of Health has suspended the acting Principal of the School of Post Basic Psychiatric Nursing at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu, Enugu State, Afam Ndu. Ndu is alleged to have committed serious misconduct unbecoming of a public officer. His name was also mentioned in the intractable crises that have rocked the institution in recent times. Recently, a group of concerned stakeholders had petitioned both the ministry and security agencies over the activities of the suspended school head. But, in a letter dated September 20, 2023, with reference no, DHS, 133/T3/169, titled: “Suspension from official duty” and signed by Daloba Edward, a Deputy Director in the Federal Ministry of Health, Ndu was directed to vacate his office. Senate Probes Incarceration Of 250 Nigerians In Ethiopian Prison The Senate has launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the incarceration of 250 Nigerians in Ethiopian prison. This followed a motion by the senate minority leader, Simon Mwadkwon, at the plenary yesterday. A report making the rounds on social media said over 250 Nigerians are facing inhumanity and maltreatment in Ethiopia without committing any offense. The report called on the Nigerian government to intervene in the illegal incarceration of its citizens. Mwadkwon while presenting his motion during the plenary said the reported incarceration of Nigerians was disturbing because it had no legal basis in the provision of international courts which Nigeria and Ethiopia are signatories. The minority leader urged the senate to immediately intervene and conduct a thorough investigation into the reasons for the incarceration of the 250 Nigerians in the Ethiopian maximum prison. The troops conducted the operations in the early hours of today, Wednesday 5 October 2033 and were able to identify and recover the remains of the body of the missing Ardo around Boi along Pankshin - Bauchi Road in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State. NNS Beecroft Hands Over Cannabis Sativa Worth Over N200M To NDLEA   The Nigeria Navy ship, NNS Beecroft, has handed over 66 bags of cannabis sativa valued at Two Hundred Million to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Lagos. The Commander NNS BEECROFT Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga, made this known while handing over the substance to the agency. Comodore Oguntuga said the substance was seized on different occasions around Iworo, Ibeju, and the Badagry area of Lagos State, with an estimated market value of N200 million.  It comprises 66 bags, each weighing 40kg, containing a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa. Commodore Oguntuga said the suspects abandoned the substance that would have been smuggled into the state and fled when they sighted his men. The Commander NNS Beecroft assured that the Nigerian Navy remained resolute at fighting crime.
