 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. FAMILY OF FIVE FOUND DEAD IN THEIR APARTMENT IN LAGOS A businessman identified as Lawrence Olorungbon, his wife, and three children have been found dead in their apartment in Apapa area of Lagos. The state Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, has begun an investigation as to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and the cause of death of the victims. The deceased and his family were found dead after his secretary who couldn't reach him on the phone, visited his home to ascertain why he was incommunicado. She knocked severally on the door but there was no response. The secretary said an offensive odour pervaded the air and that there were flies buzzing around. She immediately alerted policemen at the Apapa division who visited the scene and forced the entrance door open, to behold the bodies in their decomposing state. Abducted Cleric Admits N100m Was Paid For His Release The kidnapped Prelate of the Methodist Church, His Eminence Samuel Uche, on Tuesday said N100m was paid as ransom before he was released. At a press conference in Lagos, the cleric said the monies were arranged in five sacks of N20 million. The funds, he noted, were raised by the Methodist church in Nigeria. He also claimed that neither the Federal or State Government, nor the military or police intervened. The cleric was kidnapped on Sunday in Abia State but was released on Monday.

LAGOS : Govt dismisses anxiety over Okada ban The Lagos State Government has noted the anxiety that has followed the planned enforcement of the ban on commercial motorcycles in six local government areas as from June 1. The local governments are: Surulere, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Apapa, Eti-Osa and Ikeja. The law enforcement agencies went on a road show today to assure the public that the ban, which was announced by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on May 18, after a meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers, will be enforced without any compromise.  There is no need for any anxiety over the enforcement of the ban, which has been hailed by the majority of Lagosians as a reinforcement of the Lagos Traffic Law 2012 (amended in 2018). The Government wishes to advise all law-abiding citizens to go about their businesses without any fear whatsoever as measures have been put in place to forestall any disturbance. Anambra State Ministry Of Youths Development Trains 21 Local Government Desk Officers On ICT, Empowered With Laptops  Anambra State Ministry Of Youths Development has graduated twenty one Local Government Youth Desk Officers after a four week intensive training on Information Communication Technology, ICT.  At the event, the desk officers were also empowered with laptops to enable them man the newly created data bank for youths in the State.  The event which took place at the Government House, Awka was attended by leaders of different youth organizations.  The data bank will contain vital information of youths at the local government level collected by the desk officers. They desk officers are expected to also oversee other youths programs in the council area and facilitate the strengthening of youth based structures at the grassroot level. Governor Soludo Promises To Build Affordable, Efficient And Accessible Health Institutions Governor Chukwuma Soludo says his administration is committed to building a health institution that is efficient, affordable and accessible for the residents of Anambra state. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike revealed the promise of the Governor today during an unscheduled working visit to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka. The commissioner who came with his team from the ministry was taken round the hospital by the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Joe Akabuike, accompanied by his senior members of staff of the Hospital.  Speaking to the ABS after the inspection, Dr. Obidike said that the visit was as a result of the Governor's mandate that his ministry shall visit all the Government's owned hospitals in the state with a view to ascertaining their areas of strength and weaknesses in order to addressing their challenges accordingly.
