Rescues 13 Children From Traffickers, Arrests Suspects By OCHA Brigade Media  13 children have been rescued from suspected child traffickers in Otolo Nnewi by a joint taskforce of Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade and Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs. The joint taskforce also confiscated fake documents that aided the trafficking.  The children were found malnourished and have been denied education.  Report say that the trafficker adopts and sold children to people from different parts of the country.  More troubles for Fubara as court stops CBN from releasing Rivers' allocation The Federal High Court in Abuja has stopped the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, from further releasing monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State government. The court held that the receipt and disbursement of monthly allocations since January this year by Governor Siminalayi Fubara is a constitutional somersault and aberration that must not be allowed to continue. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who issued the order on Wednesday, held that the presentation of the 2024 budget by Fubara before a 4-member Rivers House of Assembly was an affront to the Constitutional provision. Specifically, the Judge said that Fubara action in implementing an unlawful budget smacked gross violations of the 1999 Constitution he swore to protect.  EFCC Seeks Yahaya Bello’s trial in Absentia The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday October 30, 2024 asked Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, to proceed with the trial of a former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello in absentia, arguing that his non-appearance in court for arraignment should not be allowed to frustrate his trial.  The EFCC through its lead counsel, Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, also urged the court to enter a plea of “not guilty” on behalf of Bello.  A 39-year-old stepfather was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Maake Regional Court for raping his 15-year-old stepdaughter  This horrific incident occurred in December 2010 when the victim and her younger brother were left alone at home while their mother was at work. The stepfather deceived the victim by claiming he was sent by their mother to give them snacks, then proceeded to rape her - a tragedy that happened twice before the victim found the courage to report it to her mother, leading to the stepfather's arrest.

  A tragic incident unfolded in Tembisa this morning when a 29-year-old soccer player allegedly collided with a female driver transporting her 9-year-old daughter to school on Andrew Maphetho Drive. Unfortunately, the child didn't survive and was pronounced dead at the scene. What's even more disturbing is that the soccer player reportedly fled the scene, leaving the family to deal with the devastating aftermath. Police investigation revealed bottles of alcohol and drugs at the scene, which raises serious concerns about the soccer player's state at the time of the accident. As a result, a case of culpable homicide, reckless, and negligent driving has been opened. More photos below.

  A police sergeant in Limpopo is currently on the run after allegedly shooting and killing his wife and domestic worker at his homestead in Masisi on Tuesday evening The motive behind the incident is still unknown, but domestic violence cannot be ruled out at this stage. The police have opened two counts of murder cases, and a manhunt is underway for the sergeant.

 New Jersey teacher hailed as a hero after using her own body to shield a student suffering a viscous attack. As 56-year-old special education teacher Cathy Hurley walked to her car after work on Tuesday, October 22nd, she noticed a group of teens rushing past her. She grew concerned and decided to follow them. Cathy's worst fears were realized when she witnessed the group throwing a teen to the ground as they began to seriously physically attack him. Cathy was worried about physically intervening and began screaming to stop. She had also called the police. When the group of assailants paid her no heed, she became desperate to stop the attack. That's when this heroic teacher decided to sacrifice her own safety. She threw herself over the teen to shield him from the blows he was receiving.  The teens immediately stopped the attack and fled the scene. They were all later apprehended and charged in the attack.  A Texas woman sadly goes fully blind in one eye after parasites invade her eye due to swimming in contact lenses. 23-year-old Brooklyn McCasland contracted acanthamoeba keratitis while visiting friends in Alabama. While on vacation she went swimming and soon after started having signs of an eye infection.  However due to the fact that AK mimics common eye infections in early stages, Brooklyn was misdiagnosed for a period of time, giving the parasites time to burrow in. AK is very rare and 90% of cases are in contact lens users. Brooklyn was in increasingly more pain and eventually went completely blind in her right eye even though she was visiting eye doctors 3 times a week. Finally, a test result revealed the true culprit but it's so rare the treatments are only made in the UK. During the ceremony, the newly inaugurated councillors also nominated principal officers to lead the house,and Mr Nnamdi Okwuayanga was nominated as the leader, with Obiora Obi as Deputy Leader,  Chijoke Okpalaugo- Majority Leader. Others were; Mrs. Nkiru Vivian Okagbue --Deputy Majority Leader, Anthony Oseloka Asolo- Chief Whip and Mr. Samuel Noyelu as Deputy Chief Whip.  CAN denies criticising Otti over church tax, demands retraction The Abia State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has distant itself from authorizing any statement against the governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, over a purported tax on churches in the state. In a statement endorsed by the state chairman of CAN, Rev. Ojo Uduma and the state Secretary of CAN, Rev. Dr. Francis E. Okere over the weekend, the Christian body said it never sent any letter to Sahara Reporters for publication or authorized anyone to make statement on its behalf.  ‘It was airworthy’ – NCAA speaks on crashed helicopter The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has debunked the report that a helicopter with registration 5NBQG that crashed in Port Harcourt, Rivers state last week was not airworthy. The Director-General of NCAA, Chris Najomo, in a statement, said it was not true that the ill-fated copter was scrapped in 2018, as claimed reports making the rounds. On Thursday, a copter operated by East Wind Aviation and engaged by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, crashed at 11:22 a.m. along the waterways in the Rivers State capital. The copter reportedly took off from Port Harcourt Military Base, DNPM, with its destination as the FPSO – NUIMS ANTAN oil rig. A total of eight persons were confirmed on board but four bodies have been recovered so far.
