  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Barely two hours after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, secured the conviction of three smugglers who were arrested with 1,144 ATM Cards at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, the Kano Command of the Commission again arrested another suspect at the same Airport with 576 ATM Cards. The suspect, Khalil Bashir Lawal was intercepted on Monday, December 20, 2021, by operatives of the Commission in collaboration with Nigeria Aviation Security and Nigeria Customs Service under the aegis of Special Task Force on Money Laundering.  *Customs Reveals True Content of Container Suspected to be Arms Laden* The Nigeria Customs Service Tincan Island Port Command, Lagos has confirmed items found in a container earlier suspected to be laden with arms. This was done following a joint physical examination comprising the DSS, Police, NAFDAC, SON, Bomb Disposal etc. on Monday 20th December, 2021. A statement issued by Public Relations Officer, Tincan Island Port Command, CSC Uche Ujeseime on Friday 17th December 2021 had revealed that operatives of Customs had stumbled on the container suspected to be carrying uncustomed goods with specific suspicion of it being pistols and some rounds of Ammunition. However the result of the initial examination was inconclusive as the exercise was terminated on the discovery of a firearm. A more thorough search of the container was ordered to uncover other arms and ammunition if any. Customs Sheds Light on Duty Value Variations for Used Vehicles, Others As part of efforts to make clarifications with regards to duty value on certain items, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has disclosed that there is no uniform value for used items including vehicles. This was made known by the Deputy National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Timi Bomodi during a media parley held in Lagos. He added that the degree of depreciation on used Cars may not be the same even if the Cars were manufactured same period while stating that the NCS is currently looking into complaints by some importers and agents that there are variations in value and duty, using an improvised system of checking degradation of the used item being imported. Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Bomodi also faulted the behaviour of some vehicle importers who allegedly adjust odometers on new vehicles to give a false impression of being a used vehicle that has covered high mileage with a view to evading accurate duty

Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa says his administration will sustain its partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to ensure safety on roads in the state, especially during the yuletide. Okowa stated this at a joint media briefing he held at Government House, Asaba, with the Corps Marshal of FRSC, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, on traffic management in the state during the Christmas season. He assured that the state government will continue to do all that is necessary to support the Corps in ensuring free flow of traffic across the state. The governor thanked Oyeyemi for the interest he had taken in traffic management in Delta during every yuletide, saying "there is no doubt that a lot of work is being done to ensure free flow of traffic through the River Niger bridge as a lot of travels are being done during the festive season. "We have always cooperated with the FRSC to ensure the free flow of traffic.

 KDSG approves bonus for civil servants The Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has approved the payment of end of year bonus to civil servants in the state.   Civil servants will this month receive bonuses ranging from 100% of monthly pay for junior civil servants to 30% for senior civil servants.  A statement from Sir Kashim Ibrahim House explained that the end of year bonus is part of the state government’s efforts to boost morale and enhance the welfare of civil servants.  Under the scheme, workers from Grade Levels 1-7 will be paid 100% of their monthly salary as bonus. Middle level civil servants from Grade Level 8-13 will get 40%, while senior officers on Grade Level 14 and above will receive 30% of their monthly earning.  The 2021 end of year bonus will cost the state N1.382bn. IKOYI CLUB SUSPENDED THE HUSBAND OF OIL MOGUL 'FOLORUNSHO ALAKIJA'.{PHOTOS}.

Modupe Alakija, the 72-year-old husband of oil mogul, Folorunsho Alakija has been seriously dealt with by one of the social clubs he belongs to, Ikoyi club, Lagos, for gross misconduct.   Alakija who is also the chairman of the family owned oil business, FAMFA Oil, has been suspended for assaulting a fellow member.   His victim, a prominent member of the club, was reportedly ‘rude’ to him and before one could say Jack Robinson, Alakija dazzed the guy with a blinding slap.   The man also responded with an equally blinding slap and pounced on Alakija, who didn’t see the ferocious attack coming. But the FAMFA chairman regained his momentum and both of them landed on the floor with the victim getting pummeled on all sides. Eventually, he was extricated from the grip of Alakija well battered, The Capital is reporting.   For his unruly behaviour, he got a year suspension which is to end in November of 2022.
