  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.      Following plans by the Edo State Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), to embark on strike, Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said that the state government is making arrangement for private health care providers to offer essential services to patients in state government hospitals, as the demands by the NMA are unrealistic. Obaseki said this when he received the newly inaugurated members of the Governing Board of the University Of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) at the Government House, in Benin City on Monday. He said the state government will write to the national body of NMA as the Edo State chapter of the association “has threatened to shut down the health system in the state following their unrealistic demands.” Obaseki said: “We believe that the doctors’ demands are unrealistic, having been part of the steps taken so far to improve the conditions of service of medical doctors in the state.        The Honourable Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, disclosed on Tuesday that the country’s economic outlook for the year 2018 and beyond was positive. She stated that the country was now resilient after exiting recession and has the potential to achieve a seven per cent economic growth in the next two to three years.       President Muhammadu Buhari has extended “sincere congratulations” to President Vladimir Putin of Russia on his victory in the recent presidential election in the Asian country. In a letter on behalf of himself, the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the President said Putin’s “success for the fourth time in the election is a clear testimony of the confidence” Russians have in his leadership.       Lagos Water Corporation has flagged-off the 2018 World Water Day with Free Water Test campaign at various locations across the metropolis. Speaking to the LWC Quality Assurance as well as Sales & Commercial Department teams before take off, the Head of the Department, Mrs. Monsurat Banire enjoined the Staff to be worthy Ambassadors of the Corporation, urging them to be polite in answering questions and friendly to all as they are esteemed customers of the Corporation.       Troops of 707 Special Forces Brigade on the 18 March 2018 prevented the break down of law and order in Agasha town. Sequel to the arrest of 4 youths suspected to be members of a syndicate which rustled 20 cattle, youths numbering about 500 staged a protest demanding the release of the suspects from the custody of a sister security agency. Timely response of own troops prevented the situation from degenerating beyond control. The situa tion is closely being monitored as patrols continue to dominate the general area.       Troops of Mobile Strike Team II deployed in Kaduna arrested a notorious gun runner and recovered 2 AK 47 assault rifles with 38 rounds of 7.62mm special while on clearance operation at suspected armed bandits hideout in Rigachikun general area of Kaduna State on 19 March 2018. Due to criminal activities taking place at the Rigachikun forest and environ the Army placed high surveillance in the general area to deny crimin al freedom of operation. The success recorded so far is a proactive measures taking by the Army to dominate the general area and fish out criminals that are carrying out kidnapping, armed robbery and cattle rustling. This was announced by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku, FAS during pre convocation press briefing to mark the 12th Convocation of the institution. Prof. Ahaneku explained that the University has already started counting her blessings from the establishment of Confucius Institute in the institution. He further disclosed that over 200 UNIZIK students are currently in China on scholarship. The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that as part of the "hands-on" being preached by the university, the department of Industrial Production Engineering of the University has commenced production of six plastics items including cups, bowls and trays.       Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has berated Nigerians on road use. According to him, Nigeria roads became death traps because road regulations were not obeyed. The Minister, who spoke at a one-day public enlightenment on developments in the road sector, said that what would make a nation to be prosperous, was compliance on-laws and regulations. He stated that road construction were all over the country, a dding that the usage of those road would determine how long they would last.
