 RESOLUTIONS REACHED AT THE MEETING BETWEEN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND THE ORGANISED LABOUR HELD ON MONDAY, 3RD JUNE, 2024. Further to the negotiation by the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage (NMW) and subsequent withdrawal of Labour from negotiation, the Leadership of the National Assembly intervened on 2nd June, 2024. The Organised Labour declared nationwide strike on Monday, 3rd June, 2024 to drive home its demands. 2. The Federal Government, in the National interest, convened a meeting with Labour held in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, on Monday 3rd June, with a view to ending the strike action. 3. After exhaustive deliberation and engagement by both parties, the following resolutions were reached: 1.  Landlord slumps, dies during argument with tenant in Ogun A landlord named Apeh Benjamin has been reported dead after a heated argument with his tenant in Aribabu village, Sotubo, Ogun State. The argument was triggered by the tenant’s unpaid rent. The tenant, simply identified as Emmanuel, had in the process, threatened to kill the landlord. The Ogun State police command on Monday, said the landlord slumped and died at about 6:30 am on Sunday. Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesman, assured that investigations were on to ascertain the actual cause of the death. “One Apeh Benjamin of Aribabu village, Sotubo Ogun State a landlord slumped, and died at about 0630hrs on 2nd of June, over a heated argument with one Emmanuel his tenant who threatened to kill his landlord, over indebted rent. “Investigation is on,” she said.

 12-Year-Old Boy Is Charged in Killing of 14-Year-Old Cousin in Brooklyn The 12-year-old boy was arrested on Sunday night, hours after the police said he shot and killed another boy in an apartment in the Brownsville neighborhood. A 12-year-old boy accused of shooting his 14-year-old cousin to death in Brooklyn has been charged with manslaughter, cops said Monday. Victim Jasai Guy and his younger cousin were being watched by their grandparents when the fatal shooting took place, police said, but it is unclear how they got their hands on the weapon. Sources told AMNY the gun belonged to Jasai’s father, an FDNY firefighter. His father posted on social media that he was on vacation two days before the shooting and a source said he was still away when the the incident took place. Jasai, who lived with his family in Brownsville’s Howard Houses where the shooting took place, was a popular teen, known as a talented basketball player who dreamed of being recruited by the NBA.

 EFCC Arrests 35 for Alleged Internet in Plateau   Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kaduna Zonal Command have arrested a total of 35 suspects for alleged cybercrimes in Plateau State. The suspects comprise 32 males and three females.    They were rounded up along Bauchi Road Bye Pass in Jos, Plateau State capital. Their arrest followed actionable intelligence on their fraudulent activities.    Items found in their possession upon arrest include 47 phones, five laptops, two macbooks, one black 406 Peugeot saloon car with registration number JJN 140 BX, one black Mercedes Benz car with registration number BSA 331 AG and one blue 2007 Model Toyota Camry without number plate.    They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

The students were driven out of the Unguwan Rimi Campus of the polytechnic on Monday morning by union officials who stormed the school.  CBN revokes licence of Heritage Bank The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has revoked the operating licence of Heritage Bank. The Acting Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Hakama Sidi Ali, disclosed this in a statement.  RCCG suspends City of David’s Pastor Iluyomade The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has suspended Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, the Senior Pastor of the City of David parish of the church. Iluyomade, who is also the head of the Apapa Family of the RCCG, was reportedly suspended over the weekend, a source confided in The Nation. Iluyomade was said to have been suspended for three months by the Governing Council of the church. A panel has also been set up to investigate some of the allegations against him and the parish.  Labour shuts down National Assembly, Federal Secretariat The Parliamentary Staff Union of Nigeria (PASAN) on Monday shut down the National Assembly in compliance with the indefinite strike action declared by Organised Labour to press home demand for living wage for Nigerian workers. The two gates of the Assembly complex were shut by the union with workers and other visitors unable to gain access. The Nation gathered that electricity and water supply to the two buildings housing the Senate and the House of Representatives as well as other facilities in the complex have been shut down by the union. Committee activities scheduled for Monday such as revenue monitoring hearing by the House Committee on Finance was cancelled as a result of the strike. Some auxiliary workers at the complex who reported for duty could not gain access, while union officials were seen ensuring compliance with the strike action.  Mass Sack Disrupts CBN’s Operations The recent mass sacking of various cadres of staff has started affecting operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Daily Trust has learnt. The CBN has dismissed over 600 staff since March this year. On May 24 alone, over 300 staff were laid off; about the third time the apex bank disengaged some of its staff. Between March 15 and April 11, 2024, over 117 staff were sacked for what was described as efforts to reorganise the bank. Some sources in the management of the bank told Daily Trust Sunday that the mass retrenchment has “depleted the experienced reservoir of the CBN and slowed down strategic operations as those who understand the operations were booted out without the opportunity to transfer knowledge or debrief”. The first retrenchment exercise affected staff of the CBN’s financial intelligence unit. Officials at the bank informed our reporter that this had created a gap in operations.  Workers shut FCTA gates over labour strike Workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the aegis of the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) on Monday morning shut the gates of the FCTA Secretariat on No. 1 Kapital Road, Area 11, Garki, Abuja. The premises house the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and his Agriculture and Food Security counterpart, Senator Abubakar Kyari. As early as 8am, the workers who were obeying the strike action by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had locked the gates and also blocked them with vehicles. The Nation reports that the Federal Government described as “premature, ineffectual and illegal” Labour’s strike call over the new minimum wage. It said Organised Labour failed to meet all statutory requirements and International Labour Organisation (ILO) principles before the declaration of industrial action. It also said there is a subsisting court order precluding Labour from embarking on strike, which is yet to be vacated.

 Strike: Judiciary Workers Lock Out Judges From Abuja Court Members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), on Monday, locked out judges, lawyers, staff and litigants from accessing courts in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in compliance with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC)’s directive. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)’s check at the FCT High Court, Maitama; Federal High Court (FHC); Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, showed that court activities were totally paralysed as JUSUN members positioned themselves outside the heavily locked gates. At Federal High Court, Abuja, private security guards and few police officers were also sighted around the court gates as lawyers, litigants, visitors, including journalists, were not allowed entry into the courts’ premises.
