The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.       Earlier today, a second batch of 487 Nigerian returnees evacuated by the Federal Government from Libya arrived Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa. They were received by officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and representatives of other relevant agencies.

100BN REVENUE SHORTFALL: FG ORDERS CONTRACTORS TO SHOW TAX IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS BEFORE PAYMENT.#PRESS RELEASE.

          The Federal Government has ordered vendors of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to display their Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) on their invoices before payments are effected by the MDAs. The Federal Government’s directive was handed down on Tuesday in Abuja by the Honourable Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun to the Accountant General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris. The order is part of resolute efforts by the Government to block revenue leakages by the MDAs’ vendors. About N100 billion has been discovered as tax revenue shortfall by contractors between 2012 and 2017. Adeosun, in a memo titled “Compliance with Tax Payments by Federal Government Vendors”, disclosed that persistent leakages in revenue remittances by vendors had been uncovered by the Government’s Project Lighthouse, a systemwide revenue intelligence data-warehouse.        Troops in Operation LAFIYA DOLE have been making tremendous progress in the ongoing Operation DEEP PUNCH 2 in the various Sectors. So far, the troops have neutralized over 50 Boko Haram terrorists, destroyed and captured high calibre arms and ammunition, especially in the Lake Chad general area. Troops yesterday Monday 8th January 2018, cleared Boko Haram terrorists in Metele village, Tumbun Gini and Tumbun N djamena. During the clearance operations, Boko Haram terrorists abandoned the area in disarray leaving behind livestock, large quantity of foodstuff, motorcycles and donkeys. Also in Metele however, the terrorists attempted to attack troops in harbour, but this was stiffly resisted with heavy casualty on Boko Haram terrorists. Troops neutralized over 57 of them, destroyed gun trucks and and other equipment.         Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has warned cattle herders in the state to desist from carrying dangerous weapons. Obiano said he would not hesitate to invoke the full weight of the law on any cattle herder found carrying dangerous weapons. The governor who addressed indigenes of the state during a reception organised in his country home, shortly after taking the chieftaincy title of Ebubedike Aguleri, said on no account should a herdsman be found wielding an AK-47 rifle or any such weapon. Obiano assured the state that he was not unaware of the havoc being caused by herdsmen in other states, saying he was working to ensure that such would not be witnessed in Anambra State.                                          A former chairman of Orolu Local Government Area of Osun state, Chief Rufus Woleola Ojo was today convicted and sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for corruption. The convict who was prosecuted at the Osun State High Court, Ede by the Ibadan Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, was pronounced guilty by Justice David Oladimeji on two of the three count amended charge filed against him. The court ac cordingly, sentenced him to three-year jail term on each of the two counts. The sentences are however to run concurrently.The journey to prison began for Ojo following his arraignment before Justice F.E.
