 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. In his remarks, Maj Gen AB Ibrahim lauded the commitment and effort of officers and men during the period he commanded the Division and STF and urged the incoming GOC/FC OPSH to think in and out of the box. In his response, Maj Gen AE Abubakar appreciated the commitment and accomplishments of the outgone commander in his effort to bringing lasting peace to Plateau State. The intensity of the inferno weakened major components and the supporting pillars of the bridge, prompting its closure for extensive repair on the entire stretch. A refugee from war-torn Syria has made history after he was sworn in as mayor of a German town. Ryyan Alshebl took the oath as mayor of Ostelsheim, a town 30km (18.6 miles) from the city of Stuttgart, in a solemn municipal council meeting on Friday evening. In April, the citizens of the Swabian community of 2,500 inhabitants elected Alshebl as the new head of the town hall with an absolute majority of 55.4 percent. The Young Mayors Network in Germany said it was unaware of any other refugee who had come to Germany and become the mayor of a German municipality. Niger Delta stakeholders to new governors: Don’t toe Wike’s line 8th Jul 2023  MONARCHS, leaders, and stakeholders of the South-South have urged the Governors of the six states in the geo-political zone to steer clear of squabble, and self-centered political interests that made the immediate past governors work at cross-purposes in the dispensation that ended May 29 (2015-2023). They urged the governors of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, the oldest among them, and his Bayelsa counterpart, Senator Douye Diri, to galvanize the four new governors, and ensure cohesiveness for the collective growth of the region. JAMB vs Mmesoma: Shame on you – Onanuga attacks supporters of UTME candidate Bayo Onanuga, a former media aide to President Bola Tinubu has criticized those who supported 19-year-old candidate of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Examination, JAMB, Mmesoma Ejikeme. He noted that they should have considered JAMB’s version before supporting Mmesoma. Mmesoma had claimed to have scored 362 to emerge the highest candidate in the 2023 UTME, but JAMB denied her claim. I deliberately waited for the end of this investigation before commenting on this unfortunate case of our daughter, Mmesoma Ejikeme.  She’s a brilliant girl, judging by her actual score of 249. The nation should be careful not to destroy her. What she needs is counselling, correction and guidance. She obviously did not know the weight and gravity of what she was doing. As teenagers, most of us made juvenile mistakes that never came to light. The parents should encourage her to do a public apology to JAMB, to her family and to Nigerians after which she should be allowed to get her admission based on her actual scores. Anyone still pushing other narratives over this issue is not helping her and her family. It is time to close this very unfortunate chapter and move on. This is my plea. - Festus Keyamo

Police arrest 50 Enugu university students 8th Jul 2023  Over 50 students of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) have been arrested by men of the state Police Command. The Students Union Government (SUG) President of the institution, Donatus Okolieuwa disclosed this on Saturday. He said that the students were picked up by the anti-cult squad on Friday evening in the university campus. 110,000 Americans died last year of drug overdose, says US 8th Jul 2023  The United States lost nearly 110,000 of its citizens to drug overdose in 2022, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken has said. Nigerian man begins 200hrs singing marathon to break world record A Nigerian man, Oluwatobi Kufeji, has embarked on the longest singing marathon in his quest to set a new Guinness World Record. The marathon kicked off in Lagos on July 5 and is expected to run until July 13. Kufeji had earlier announced his ambitious plan to undertake a 200-hour praise-a-thon as he aimed to surpass the previous record of 105 hours set by Indian singer Sunil Waghmare in 2012. “Guinness world records has accepted my application to break the record of the LONGEST SINGING MARATHON of 105 hours currently held by Sunil Waghmare (Indian) since March 2012 and the record of the LONGEST CONCERT BY A SOLO ARTIST for 501 hours currently held by Kuzhalmannam Ramakrishnan (Indian). “These marathons will be done separately.
