 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. Lawmakers Back Use Of Concrete For Road Construction House of Representatives Committee on Works says it will adopt the use of concrete for road construction against the use of asphalt. The Chairman, Mr Akin Alabi, during the inauguration of the Committee at the National Assembly claimed that the use of asphalt had led to the deplorable state of road infrastructure in the country. Additionally, Mr Alabi stated that the committee was prepared to provide sufficient supervision of the Federal Ministry of Works and its parastatals, guaranteeing that any money allocated for road building and repair would be worth it.  EFCC Secures Conviction of Three Internet Fraudsters in Anambra The Enugu Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has secured the conviction of three Internet fraudsters. The Convicts were first arraigned on September 29, 2023, before Justice Nnadi O. Dimgba of the Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State on  one -count separate charges bordering on impersonation and attempt to obtain money by false pretences. The suspects are: Anyanwu Prince Uzoma, Okume Clinton Chukwuemeka and Jude Onyecachi. EFCC Arrests one for N57.5million Fraud in Jos Operatives of the Gombe Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have  arrested one Ibrahim Abubakar, managing director of Shariff Agric and General Service in Jos, Plateau State, for stealing  N57,550,000.00 (Fifty Seven Million, Five Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) only.  He was arrested on Friday, October 6, 2023 for allegedly converting N57.5million erroneously paid into his company: Shariff Agric and General Services’ account, for his own use.     Baker Drilling Service allegedly transferred the sum of N57,550,000.00 into the account of Shariff Agric and General Services, instead of Bluemoe Trade & Service. Both accounts are domiciled in the United Bank for Africa  respectively. After the bank alerted Abubakar of the wrong posting into his company’s account,   he allegedly transferred the sum of Five Million (N5,000,000.00) each to his personal account in UBA and Keystone banks respectively. Undergraduate Bags two Years Jail Term in Port Harcourt Justice P. I . Ajoku of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday October 10, 2023, convicted and sentenced Chika Eguma Ekwodu, an undergraduate student of Rivers State University to two years imprisonment for impersonation and obtaining money by false pretences.   The offence contravenes Section 22(2) (b) (ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22(2) (b) (iv) of the same Act. He was prosecuted by the EFCC on two -count charges bordering on impersonation and obtaining money by false pretences. One of the count charges read: "That you, Chika Eguma Ekwodu, on the 5th day of June, 2023, at Rivtaf Golf Estate Port Harcourt, within jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did fraudulently represent yourself as one Scarlett, a bitcoin trade expert with intent to gain advantage for yourself, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22(2)(

Thieves Raid Ogun Palace, Steal Crown, Staff Of Office Suspected thieves have reportedly raided the palace of the Olu of Ogunmakin town in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba James Sodiya, carting away his crown and staff of office. It was learnt that the hoodlums broke into the palace of the late monarch, who passed away about two months ago, on Thursday. Police spokesperson in the state, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident to journalists in Abeokuta on Saturday. Odutola, however, hinted that the police had arrested three suspects in connection with the crime. Oil production now 1.7 million barrels daily, says FG The Federal Government, on Friday, announced that Nigeria’s oil production has increased to about 1.7 million barrels per day, up from the 1.1mbpd recorded in August 2023. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, disclosed this in a session with journalists at his office in Abuja on Friday. He said, “We have a sole agenda and it is to increase crude oil production. Once you increase production there will be more revenue for Nigeria and that is the recipe to virtually all the problems we have in this country. You know that Nigeria is very dependent on oil, even our budget is always predicated on how many barrels of oil we produce. Divine Oduduru Gets Six-year Ban For Doping Violations Nigerian sprinter Divine Oduduru has been given a six-year ban for committing two doping violations. The Athletics Integrity Unit announced the decision on Thursday, saying there was “overwhelming evidence” against the former world junior silver medallist. The violations were possession of prohibited substances and attempted use of a prohibited substance or method. Oduduru’s case was linked to that of team-mate Blessing Okagbare, who was banned for 11 years for doping in 2022. “We are very pleased with the outcome of this matter, given its particularly grievous nature, exposing the sinister collusion between athletes and other persons in deliberate plans to corrupt athletics at the highest level,” said Brett Clothier, head of the AIU. Kenyan authorities arrest fake lawyer who won all 26 cases he handled in court. Kenyan authorities have arrested a fake lawyer, Brian Mwenda, who has won 26 cases while parading himself as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.  According to reports, the lawyer handled 26 cases before High Court Judges, Magistrates, and Court of Appeal Judges before his arrest, all of which he won.  He was arrested by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Nairobi Branch Rapid Action Team (RAT) for false pretences.  He was apprehended when the RAT received public complaints.  Nairobi Branch disclosed on their X account that he is not an advocate and does not have a license to practice law in Kenya.  “It has been brought to the attention of the LSK Nairobi Branch through the Rapid Action Team (RAT), that the man has been presenting and conducting himself as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a member of LSK Nairobi Branch,” read the notice in part.  He is being held at the RAT headquarters pending furt

PROTEST IN OTUKPO AS YOUTHS DEMAND HANDOVER OF KIDNAP SUSPECT TO MOB The Area Police Command in Otukpo Benue State, have rescued a suspected kidnapper arrested by youths and vigilantes in Oglewu District of Ohimini LGA of Benue State. According to the information gathered so far, the youths and local vigilante from Oglewu captured a man who owned up to being a kidnapper around Okwungaga Hill and agreed to take the youths to hide out. He was, however, rescued and taken away by the Police while the mob was still interrogating him. The youths have now commenced a protest in the area, demanding that the police release the suspect to them. They have blocked the Otukpo- Enugu Highway in Otukpo, insisting that the police release the arrested kidnapper for jungle justice. SUSPECTED HERDSMEN HIJACK FULLY LOADED BENUE LINKS BUS, BUTCHER PASSENGERS Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on Thursday, attacked a Benue Links bus conveying passengers to Otukpo en route Naka road Gwer West LGA at Tyolaha village. One passenger was killed and several others were injured during the attack by the marauders. It was gathered that the latest attack is not the first time marauding herdsmen had carried out such gruesome attacks on passengers along the dilapidated road.
