  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. CAR CRASHES INTO TRUCK IN MONZE LEAVING PASSENGERS WITH INJURIES  MONZE Police on Sunday recorded a Serious Injury Road Traffic Accident involving a Mercedes Benz truck and a Honda Fit, near Monze Town Council Truck Park Yard. Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga tells Byta FM Zambia that the accident happened when the driver of the Benz Truck turned right without due care, and in the process, the Honda Fit crashed into his truck. Hamoonga says the driver of the Honda Fit, identified as James Mwamba, 35, of Chilenje Lusaka sustained a fractured right leg, bruises on the right side of the face and general body pains. He says Mwamba’s passenger, identified as Florence Mulyata, 25, of Cold storage area Livingstone sustained general body pains. The Police Spokesperson says that the accident happened around 05:00 hours, adding that the driver if the Honda Fit and the passenger are admitted to Monze Mission Hospital.

 Queues Resurface In Filling Stations As Tinubu Declares Fuel Subsidy Removal May 29, 2023 Petrol stations in the city of Enugu are experiencing long queues just hours after President Bola Tinubu on Monday announced the end of fuel subsidy. This is even as most of the stations that are dispensing increased their pump rates. President Tinubu in his inauguration speech, highlighted that the fuel subsidy regime had disproportionately favoured the rich over the poor. He commended the decision to phase out the subsidy, stating that the resources previously allocated to subsidy payments would be redirected towards public infrastructure, education, healthcare, and job creation, to improve the lives of millions. Fuel subsidy removal: Labour leaders react to Tinubu’s announcement 29 May 2023  Some labour leaders say there is a need for all stakeholders in the sector, including government, to analyse the issue of fuel subsidy removal mentioned by the new President, Mr Bola Tinubu, in his inaugural speech. Tinubu, on taking office on Monday, said that the budget in place before his coming on board made no provision for fuel subsidy, and so it was gone. The President commended the decision of the Buhari administration in phasing out the petrol subsidy regime, saying it had increasingly favoured the rich more than the poor. “Subsidy can no longer justify its ever-increasing costs in the wake of drying resources. Seyi Makinde has ordered the dissolution of the Disciplinary Committee, Park Management System headed by Alhaji Mukaila Auxiliary. The newly appointed Chief of Staff, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, who disclosed this in a statement today, Monday May 29, 2023, said the dissolution is with immediate effect.
