The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.  Wagner group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin presumed dead as his private jet crashes Wagner group leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin has been presumed dead after his private jet mysteriously dropped from the sky.  The mercenary chief was listed to be travelling on the private jet which was en route from Moscow to St Petersburg when it crashed on Wednesday, August 23. Footage showed the aircraft spiralling towards the ground, with smoke pouring from the fuselage after it mysteriously started diving towards the ground. Seconds later, snaps of the aftermath showed mangled wreckage in a fiery heap. Russia’s state news agency Tass quoted emergency officials as saying the plane carried three pilots and seven passengers. Umahi inspects Abuja-Lokoja road, threatens to sack contractors over shoddy job The minister of works, David Umahi has expressed deep dissatisfaction over the work done on the Abuja-Lokoja road by some contractors. The minister cited the constructed bridge on section 4 of the project, saying it was poorly done, and would not hesitate reviewing the contract of the handling firms. Speaking during the inspection of the Abuja-Lokoja road on Tuesday, Umahi threatened to terminate the contract of any contractor in the project who fails to meet with the expected outcomes, especially with regards to the quality of work done. He stressed that if a contractor fails in one project, the firm’s other projects will be terminated. He further disclosed that he and the team of experts in the ministry of works were exploring technological options to ensure that projects delivered meet the expectations of Nigerians. Police arrests 94 year old man for allegedly defiling a minor The police in Adamawa state have arrested a 94-year-old man identified as Mohammed Abubakar, for allegedly d£filing a 13-year-old minor in Tappare ward, Ganye local government area.  The suspect who has been identified as a herbalist, is said to have been in the habit of deceiving young females by giving them sweet items. The police said on August 12 while the victim was passing by the suspect's house, he called her into the house and took advantage of her by having an unlawful c@rnal knowledge of her.  ‘’Investigation, so far reveals that the suspect while committing the act rubbed some concoction in the form of perfume on the victim. Railway Bridge Under Construction Collapses In India,Many Feared Dead  At least 26 people have been killed and more feared missing after a railway bridge under construction collapsed in north-eastern India, officials said. The incident occurred near the town of Sairang, in the state of Mizoram. Up to 40 workers were at the site when part of the bridge collapsed, according to local media reports. The cause of the incident is not yet clear and the railway authority has opened an investigation. Three people have so far been rescued. According to the Prime Minister Narenda Modi in a statement, "All possible assistance will be given to those affected," He said.  The government will pay some 200,000 rupees (£1,900; $2,400) to the next of kin of those killed, it added. India has become the first country in the world to successfully land a spacecraft on the south pole of the moon.  The Chandrayaan-3 mission was declared a success on Wednesday, August 23, after the Vikram lander touched down at the South Pole of the moon by 1.34pm. The mission’s Vikram lander travelled at about 1.68km per second, and fired its engines to successfully align the probe vertically to the Moon’s surface. Until now, no other country has achieved a soft landing on the Moon’s south pole, which is known to contain traces of water ice in its shadowed craters. This is India's third Chandrayaan mission. Both Chandrayaan-1 in 2008 and Chandrayaan-2 earlier in 2019 failed to successfully land. The successful space journey sparked celebrations around India, including in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru, where space scientists watching the landing erupted in cheers and applause. 12 suspected internet fraudsters have been arrested for allegedly burying a newborn baby alive at Andoni waterfront in Eagle Island, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday morning, August 23, 2023.  The arrest followed credible information received by the vigilante from residents who saw a group of boys conducting incantation and digging the ground by the waterfront. Chairman of PLGA Security Watch, Victor Ohaji, disclosed the incident to newsmen. First womb transplant carried out in UK The first womb transplant has been carried out by surgeons on a woman in the United Kingdom. The woman’s sister was the living womb donor. According to The Guardian on Wednesday, the unidentified 34-year-old married recipient from England underwent a nine-hour transplant procedure. The married woman was born with a rare condition, meaning her original womb was underdeveloped.
