 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. Igbokwe knocks Ekweremadu’s son for elaborate wedding amid parents’ jail terms Joe Igbokwe, an APC chieftain, has condemned Lloyd Ekweremadu, the son of former deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, for hosting an extravagant wedding despite his parents’ incarceration in the United Kingdom. Wike, who described the PDP leaders as reggae dancers for threatening to sanction him, said the party was well informed before he accepted the position. EFCC Nabs Akpa for N500m Land Fraud The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, has arrested one Stephen Acheme Akpa, chief executive of Zoe New Dawn Nigeria Limited, for alleged Five Hundred Million Naira (N500, 000,000) land fraud. Akpa was first arrested by the Commission on December 2, 2022 at his office in the Idu axis of Abuja, following a petition alleging that he obtained the sum of N 500, 000, 000 under false pretence. He was to be arraigned on a five count charge when he jumped the administrative bail offered by the Commission. All efforts to apprehend proved futile until August 9, 2023 when he was rearrested. He will soon be arraigned in court.

 DOCTORS DECLARE STRIKE IN BENUE OVER COLLEAGUE'S ABDUCTION 21st August, 2023      Doctors in Benue State will on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, commence a three-day warning strike in solidarity with one of their colleagues, Dr. Asema Msuega, who was kidnapped on Sunday, 23rd July 2023. He was abducted on his way to supervise a state malaria initiative at a Primary Health Centre in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue state. The doctors arrived at the decision at the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Benue State branch’s Executive Council (SEC) meeting held on Friday. According to the statement signed by the Chairman, Dr Anenga, and the Secretary, Dr Godwin Ameh, the doctors would down their tools from Tuesday, 22nd August 2023, at 12:01 am, until Friday, 25th August 2023, at 8:00 am. Urges Property Owners to Build to Specifications Officials of Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), have commenced the removal of a five-floor structure located at 7, BreadFruit Street, Lagos Island. According to the General Manager of the Agency, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, the Agency’s effort to reduce the rate of illegal construction in the State and curb the menace of building collapse prompted the demolition of the building to avert any imminent danger to public safety.  He added that the owner of the building did not obtain any approval from the Agency which is contrary to the provisions of the law guiding construction works in every part of the State. Speaking further, Oki said that several warnings and notices served on the developer to stop work proved abortive, hence the Agency had no option but to demolish the structure. I’m going through challenges beyond me – Singer Charly Boy Veteran Nigerian singer, Charles Oputa popularly known as Charly Boy has declared that the year hasn’t been favourable to him, saying that he is going through lots of challenges both publicly and privately. The singer made this known via his Instagram page on Saturday while reacting to the video of Lagos socialite, Farida Sobowale, who attempted suicide at the third mainland bridge during the week. Speaking on his ordeal, Charly Boy revealed that he fell victim to massive fraud, resulting in the loss of millions of Naira. He also revealed that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which has tragically claimed the lives of several of his friends. I will demolish any illegal building in FCT--- Wike declares The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has vowed to restore the city’s master plan. Wike who was in high spirits on Monday, August 21, said President Bola Tinubu expects positive changes in FCT. He expressed displeasure over what he described as a high level of insecurity in the nation’s capital. The minister who spoke during a press conference at the FCTA after the swearing-in ceremony at the Presidential Villa, said land allottees who have been given Certificates of Occupancy but failed to develop would also lose their lands to give way to those ready to build. MINISTER OF EDUCATION ASSUMES OFFICE The Ministers of Education,  Prof Mamman Tahir and Alhaji Yusuf Sonunu have assumed office with a promise to transform the sector in line with the renewed hope agenda of president Bola Tinubu.  Prof. Tahir noted that the expectations of Nigerias on the present administration were high and called on all stakeholders to support them to deliver on the education mandate.  Prof. Tahir described his personality as result oriented and affirmed that he would ensure progress in the education sector.  The Minister of state for Education,  Alhaji Yusuf Sonunu said his appointment and deployment to the education sector was a dream come true as he had aspired to be a teacher.
