      The 8th Edition of the Inspector General of Police (IGP's) Open Taekwondo Championship, has ended, with the Nigerian Army Taekwando team, winning 7 medals. The competition was held at the Civic Centre, in Port Hacourt, capital of Rivers State, from 24 to 28 July, 2019. The championship, which drew participants from the 36 States of the Federation, as well as various Taekwondo Clubs across the country, also attracted international athletes from some West African countries. About 250 Taekwondoists competed for honours and glory at the championship. The Army's Taekwondo team, made up of 12 athletes comprising 8 male and 4 female, featured in the exciting tourney. At the end of the 4-day sporting extravaganza, the Army's Taekwondo team carted away 4 Gold and 3 Bronze Medals.         Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared his administration’s readiness to partner with the government of United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the areas of traffic management and security. The Governor disclosed this when he received the Consul-General of the UAE Consulate in Nigeria, Dr Abdulla Al-Mandoos in Alausa at the weekend. Sanwo-Olu noted that UAE, in the last decade, had become a choice destination for Nigerian tourists and businessmen. This revelation, the Governor said, should deepen the existing bilateral agreements between Nigeria and UAE.       Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested Tukur Yabo, Director of Works and Housing, Tureta Local Government Area; Hon. Abubakar Maigishiri, a Councilor, Social Welfare, Tureta LGA; Danjuma Ibrahim, a Cashier with Ministry of Social Welfare and Community Development, Sokoto State, and Sambo Abdullahi, a staff of the same Ministry for their alleged involve ment in the criminal diversion of N980,000 public funds. They were arrested on July 25, 2019 following investigation of a petition alleging that some employees of Sokoto Marshal Corps/ Neighborhood Watch Operatives of Tureta Local Government were not paid their April, May and June salaries. It was further alleged that the salaries were diverted to personal use by the arrested suspects, as all efforts by the workers to get their salaries proved abortive.        The acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has said that the concept of plea bargaining is instrumental to the high rate of conviction recorded by the Commission. “Plea bargain has boosted our conviction rate which already stands at 666 this year alone, but we have to discuss and review our plea bargain processes in line with our core values to prevent abuse and corrupt practices,” Magu said. He made the disclosure at the opening of the “Legal Leadership Retreat” organized by the EFCC for prosecutors of economic and financial crimes, with the theme: “Promoting Synergy among Stakeholders for Effective Prosecution of Economic and Financial Crimes”, at the EFCC Academy, Karu, Abuja, on July 26, 2019.        President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sorrow at the passage of veteran sports journalist, Akinloye Oyebanji, aged 62. The President condoles with Oyebanji’s family, friends and colleagues, particularly at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), where he worked for 35 years, making his mark as a sportscaster. President Buhari recalls that the deceased was very good at his art, and would be sorely missed by the sporting community.
