  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Channing Tatum has revealed that he has the rights to the classic 1990 romance Ghost from Paramount Pictures and plans to remake it. His disclosure that his production company Free Association has “the rights to Ghost” came during an interview with Vanity Fair, conducted while the actor-producer was making pottery. “Now I know why they put [pottery-making] in Ghost,” he joked. “This whole process is very, very sexual.” Tatum told Vanity Fair that he’ll play Patrick Swayze’s role in the new Ghost. “But we’re going to do something different,” he said, alluding to certain problematic elements in the storytelling of the original film. Tatum added, “I think it needs to change a little bit and have our…” but never got around to finishing his sentence after being distracted by the aforementioned pottery. KDSG Security Update: Tuesday 17th January 2023.  Troops neutralize bandits, clear hideouts in Chikun LGA. Troops of Operation Forest Sanity have neutralized two bandits and cleared several hideouts in Chikun LGA.  According to operational feedback to the Kaduna State Government, the troops achieved these breakthroughs during fighting patrols along the Kaboresha-Rijana Forest-Kuzo-Kujeni-Gwanto-Kachia axis.  The troops set up an ambush position along the Gwanto-Kwasau Road, and thus engaged bandits approaching the location on motorcycles. The troops neutralized two bandits and recovered three motorcycles.  The troops also raided bandits camps in the Kutura-Rijana general area. The bandits fled into the forest on sighting the troops, who then destroyed the camps and recovered three motorcycles.  Other items recovered include several sets of military uniforms and bandoliers.  The onslaught against bandits is in progress and government appeals to the general public to continue to volunte

Police Officer Family Seeks Help Over ₦3.5m Loss Of Property To Fire *** The family of a Nigerian police officer with the FCT Police Command, Insp. Ahmed Adamu, is seeking  help from well-meaning Nigerians over the loss of his valuables and property worth ₦3.5 million to fire.  Mrs Fadilah Adamu, the wife of Adamu, speaking on behalf of her husband, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Masaka on Tuesday,  that the fire occurred at about 10:45 p.m. on January 10. Adamu, while recounting the losses, said their three bedroom bungalow situated at Talent Science School Street, Jeun, Masaka, was razed by the fire as calls made to the fire service for help to minimise the damage proved abortive. 8 people shot at Martin Luther King Day event in Florida 17 January 2023  Eight people were shot at a block party packed with more than 1,000 people celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Fort Pierce, Florida, Monday, police said. All eight of those shot were adults and they were ferried to the hospital for treatment, including one person in critical condition, St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Brian Hester said during a news conference. At least four others were injured as people ran for safety, the sheriff’s office said. One of those injured was a juvenile who was hurt as people rushed to flee the park where the event was being held, Hester said. “As the shots rang out, people were just running in all directions,” Hester said. “There were people laying behind cars, laying behind anything they could lay behind. LAGOS POLICE COMMAND ARRESTS 203 SUSPECTS, ARRAIGNS 117 IN COURT …  Reiterates Commitment to Protection of Lives, Properties in Lagos   In its continuous efforts to improve security and protect lives and properties in the State, the Lagos Police Command has arrested about 203 suspects for various crimes ranging from armed robbery, rape, impersonation and cultism, just as it revealed that it has arraigned117 suspects in court for prosecution. According to the monthly Police Activity Report for December 2022, signed by State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Alabi, the Command prevented many robbery incidents and recovered 14 firearms, while 364 vehicles and 209 motorcycles were impounded for violating the State Traffic Laws across the Lagos metropolis.  The report further disclosed that following credible information of suspected cultists, who had been terrorising the Eredo-Epe axis and hibernating at Idowu Street, Eredo Epe.
