      Over the last three months, Lagos State has experienced an upsurge in the number of trailers/tankers involved in major accidents on the Expressways and major arteries. We will continue to encourage people to do business in Lagos, but we will not allow the lives of Lagosians and visitors to be put at risk. Lagos State will not tolerate the recklessness of truck drivers when transporting goods on our roads. The Vehicle Inspection Services (VIS) is to step up its activities in the government’s bid to stop such accidents involving trucks and others. The government is also curious about the persistence of tanker accidents at the Berger end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the resultant gridlock that trails the incidents, spiralling through the entire Ikeja axis of the State and traumatising motorists and commuters.        The Lagos State Government is set to build a befitting and comfortable orientation camp for Corp members at the permanent orientation camp in Agbowa. The Honourable Commissioner, for Special Duties and Inter-governmental Relations, Engr. Tayo Bamgbose-Martins stated this when the outgoing State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for Lagos State, Mr. Sunday Aroni paid him a farewell visit. He said that "a thorough scrutiny of the old orientation site at Iyana Ipaja revealed that the camp was small and inadequate for over 29,000 Corp members deployed to the State annually. As such, there is a need to build a new, spacious and adequate permanent site as a replacement for the old Ipaja orientation camp".       The Enforcement Team of the Ikoyi/Victoria Island Cleanup Committee on Tuesday came under physical attack from some military personnel at the roundabout opposite Bonny Camp in Victoria Island. The team, which had been conducting daily enforcement raids, visited the roundabout under the Bonny Camp to continue the exercise but were confronted by uniformed military personnel who prevented them from confiscating the items displayed and sold in violation of the law. During the encounter, the military personnel, in the company of some other individuals in mufti, questioned the audacity of the LASG officials to conduct raids near a military capacity and resorted to beating up all identified officers of the State within sight. The action of the military men emboldened some of the street traders who resorted to hurling stones and other dangerous items at the officers who were on enforcement duties.      The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila has said that the House under him would continue to champion the rights of the weak and poor Nigerians. Gbajabiamila said being elected by the people, it is incumbent on members of the House as representatives of the citizens, to anchor the wellbeing of the people. Gbajabiamila spoke at the inauguration of the Nigeria National Group of the Parliamentarians for Global Action (NNG-PGA) chaired by Rep. Abdulrazak Sa'ad Namdas.        The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Enugu Zonal Office on Tuesday, February 24, 2020 secured the convictions of three undergraduates, namely: Cynthia Nwankwo Ifunanya (female), 22 years, Kingsley Omenazu 27 and Okorie Kosalachi Alex 29 years before Justice I Buba of Federal High Court, Enugu, Enugu State on two separate count charges of internet fraud. . . Justice Buba after reviewing the evidence against the convicts admitted that the prosecution counsel, Eunice Vou Dalyop has proved her case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted and sentenced Alex to three years imprisonment, while Ifunanya and Omenazu were handed two years imprisonment respectively. The threesome was, however, given N2 million (Two Million Naira) option of fine each. . .        Justice Dimgba Igwe of Federal High Court, Abuja, has adjourned the corruption trial of the former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro till March 25, 2020. . . Moro is facing prosecution for money laundering and procurement fraud matter, preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to the tune of N675,675,000 (Six Hundred and Seventy-five Million Naira). . . He is charged alongside Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia, a former secretary in the ministry, Mahmood Ahmadu, currently at large and Drexel Tech Nigeria Limited, a firm involved in the ill-fated 2014 nationwide recruitment exercise of Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) that consumed 15 applicants with scores sustaining injuries due to the ministry’s shoddy preparations for the exercise.

      The Lagos State House of Assembly has held a Stakeholders’ Public Hearing on the Bill for a law to amend the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Law 2019 in order to incorporate the Amotekun security initiative. Speaking during the ceremony held at the Lagos State House of Assembly Complex, Alausa, Rt. Honourable Mudasiru Obasa said the Amotekun Security outfit has come to stay, adding that the Neighbourhood Safety Corps will be reorgani sed to accommodate the Southwest security outfit Amotekun. “Kindly note that our challenges here in Lagos are quite different from other States in this part of the country and in that wisdom we are going to look at this bill and make sure we do justice to it.
