 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. MAN ARRESTED ON VALENTINE'S DAY FOR ARMED ROBBERY, INTENT TO DELIVER 15-100G OF METHAMPHETAMINE ETC. (PHOTO).

 On February 14th, 2024, Ashton Harper, 29 years old from Mt. Vernon, IL, was arrested on Armed Robbery and Possession with intent to deliver 15-100g of methamphetamine.  In the early morning hours on February 7th, 2024, there was a report of an armed robbery in the area of Rose Lane. The victim was known to Harper and was targeted in the robbery. The Mt. Vernon Police Department general criminal detectives began investigating the robbery and obtained an arrest warrant for Harper. After the warrant was issued, the Mt. Vernon Police Department began searching for him. On February 14th, 2024, the Mt. Vernon Police Department general criminal detectives, narcotics detectives, and patrol located Harper and took him into custody without incident. Harper was detained at the Jefferson County Jail for the above charges. Harper was on Mandatory Supervised Release (parole) with the Illinois Department of Corrections during this time.  INTERNAL SECURITY: POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS, NEUTRALIZE BANDITS, RECOVER ARMS. In continuation of the fight against armed bandits, criminals, and insecurity in Nigeria, on the 13th of February 2024, at about 2030hrs, operatives of the Sokoto State Police Command, acting on gathered intelligence, intercepted and arrested a group of Five (5) persons suspected to be members of a kidnapping syndicate along the Bodinga-Tambunwal Highway. The suspects were found in possession of three (3) AK-47, 90 rounds of live ammunition, and 3 AK-47 magazines.  The suspects are Abdullahi Ali, Aliyu Mohammed, Abdullahi Umar, Aliyu Abdullahi and Mohammed Anas all confessed to the crime and revealed they were on their way to Tambuwal for a kidnapping operation before being thwarted by the men of the Nigeria Police Force. The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, in a letter dated February 14, which he wrote to the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, applied for the termination of further proceedings in the matter. Tinubu directed the security agencies to stop owners of the warehouses from profiteering.  FX Crisis: Travel Allowances By Cash No Longer Permitted — CBN In a move to solve the foreign exchange crisis in the country, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says Personal and Basic Travel Allowances will only be paid through electronic channels and not by cash. The Director of Trade and Exchange Department at the apex bank, Hassan Mahmud, made this known in a circular dated February 14, 2024.
