 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. Plot to install interim government is real, says DSS MARCH 29, 2023  The Department of State Services (DSS) says it has confirmed a plot “by some key players” to install an interim government and stop Bola Ahmed Tinubu from being inaugurated as president.  In a statement on Wednesday, Peter Afunanya, the public relations officer of the secret police, said: “The Department of State Services (DSS) has identified some key players in the plot for an Interim Government in Nigeria. “The Service considers the plot, being pursued by these entrenched interests, as not only an aberration but a mischievous way to set aside the constitution and undermine civil rule as well as plunge the country into an avoidable crisis. “The illegality is totally unacceptable in a democracy and to the peace loving Nigerians. This is even more so that the machination is taking place after the peaceful conduct of the elections in most parts of the country.”

They were arrested along the Monark, Emene and Golf axis of Enugu state, following actionable intelligence. The Chairman stated this in his goodwill message during a two-day stakeholders’ workshop on Moral Regeneration in the Universal Basic Education Programme which was organized by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). Court Sends Two Fraudsters to Prison in Warri Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Warri, Delta State on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, convicted and sentenced the duo of Malvis Bello and Abel Peter to prison for fraud. Bello and Peter were arraigned by the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on separate one count charges of fraudulent impersonation and attempting to obtain by false pretence from unsuspecting victims. Upon arraignment, the defendants pleaded guilty to the charges, prompting the prosecution counsel, I.M. Elodi to pray the court to convict and sentence them accordingly.  However, the defence counsel, A.S. Akinfolarin pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy as the defendants were first-time offenders who have become remorseful for their actions. Recall that Benue governor-elect, Hyacinth Alia of the APC is set to take over from Ortom’s administration come May 29. LAGOS BUS-TRAIN ACCIDENT VICTIMS COMPENSATION COMMITTEE SUBMITS REPORT   A nine-member committee set up by the Lagos State Government in the aftermath of the Bus-Train collision of Thursday, 9th March 2023, has submitted its report.    Findings of the report showed that the accident had six fatalities from a total of 102 passengers involved, with 85 passengers on board the Staff Bus, while 17 were on the train.    The Committee as part of its recommendations advised: Death benefits from the Group Life Insurance for families of the deceased, provision of employment to one employable child of the deceased and a concessionary scholarship to one of the deceased's biological children.  ​​ Injured accident victims were also recommended in the report to be paid full insurance claims as compensation while any staff victim with a permanent disability is also to be compensated in line with the Group Life Insurance Policy of the State, among other benefits.    The committee, which consists of
